Designed to provide the most comfortable therapy available, the ResMed S8 AutoSet II is simple, quiet and easy to use. One-touch settings and simple set-up make this machine very attractive since the AutoSet algorithm works on a breath per breath basis and automatically adjusts to find the lowest required pressure needed, preventing most snoring and apnea events. Take advantage of EPR and the new Easy-Breathe technology which offers smoother, comfortable pressure by synchronizing with the CPAP user's normal breathing patterns, allowing for natural and stable breathing. Packed with features, ResMed was able to keep sound levels well below the industry norm, operating at 24 db(A).
ResMed has incorporated its expiratory pressure reduction system into the Auto Mode on this unit. A major feature missing from the first version. EPR decreases the pressure at the beginning of each breath and keeps the pressure low throughout the exhalation. The pressure is reduced by an exact pressure drop of: one, two or three centimeters of water pressure. EPR uses slower pressure changes, so there is little ventilatory effect. However, EPR does feel very much like a Bilevel to the patient.
EPR also has an Event Detection Circuit. When a sleep disordered breathing event is expected or has occurred, EPR stops until the event concludes and normal breathing resumes.
The S8 AutoSet II uses Easy-Breathe Technology along with EPR to make breathing more natural with smooth pressure waveforms, which imitates normal respiration and ultimately makes breathing more comfortable than traditional CPAP machines.

CPAP.com Comments
A ResMed DC-12 Converter For S8 Machines must be used with the 12 volt jack. Any other cable will likely cause a machine failure. You can find this item on our site.
Do not run this machine on a regular AC to DC inverter. A pure sine wave inverter must be used. We sell these on the website.
All S8 and S8 II CPAP Machines utilize a "Cool Down" feature that runs the CPAP Motor up to 1 hour after turning the machine off. The motor helps to cool off the humidifier plate. You may hear a "faint blowing sound" when you turn the machine off. However, you can unplug the power cord and allow the heater plate to cool without airflow.
The S8 AutoSet II and Elite II are compatible with this product, but the CPAP machines were manufactured BEFORE the H4i was manufactured. When setting either machine, please note that H3i will appear on the display.

Excellent CPAP

"The S8 AutoSet II CPAP is an excellent machine. Very well built, easy to to use (and program), super easy clean up. Compact and easy to travel with. One of my favorite things is that it is very durable. You don't feel like you're going to break it when you handle it. Multiple power options is also a great feature. I highly recommend this CPAP!"

The Best CPAP/APAP Ever Made?

"I love it. If I wasn't already married I would propose to it.
I am a relatively new but very aggressive CPAP user. Four months ago I could not even turn over in bed after being on full life support for the month of June and immobile totally. My muscles are returning to normal but the diaghram and lung capacity is the last to return and I have just recently been permitted to enter rehab here in Toronto (Toronto Rehab - they are wonderful). That is where my CPAP issue comes from and so my issue is caused by both my airway collapsing as I enter REM sleep and by my insufficient lung capacity shooting my blood pressure up skyhigh (high enough to pop my Aorta). I tell you this by way of explanation as to what is so wonderful about the ResMed S8 Autoset II APAP/CPAP machine with 4i humidifier and Mirage Activa mask and other toys.
You can read the literature on the unit and find out what it does but for me... it takes a running window of your breathing and adjusts pressure accordingly. This works incredibly well for me. No more setting to a given pressure and waiting a year for another sleep study to see if it is still the ideal pressure. The machine does it for you every sixty seconds within a set range of pressures. It will detect a snore or an obstructive episode and ramp up the pressure accordingly to ensure proper air intake. Better yet, if you have an episode where you are not taking in air it will sound an alarm to wake you up - preventing the blood pressure from skyrocketing! It has a feature where pressing and holding the "on" button for 3 seconds will put it into a mask fitting mode and it will provide a graph as to how the seal about your mask is doing. And again, at night, if you roll in your sleep and unseal your mask? ALARM! I want a full night of sleep regardless of power failures so I have attached a small UPS to it that will take care of things for a while if the power goes off. Better yet, (DUH?), I rethought thinks out and now I have it set so that the UPS sets off its audible ALARM if the power goes off so that I am not struggling for breath and skyrocketing my blood pressure in a power failure. Amazing. There are so many features that this machine has they are just too numerous to discuss on here. Read the reviews! And when all is said and done and you want to know how you are doing? Pull out the chip, plug it into a reader, run the software and you will get a night by night picture of your events and so on. Amazing. Why on Earth my MD would suggest the basic Escape II model is beyond me. I paid less for the Autoset II than for the Escape (which I bought up here in Ontario). AND, may I take this opportunity to hightly recommend our forum sponsor CPAP.COM for their outstanding service thus far. It is appreciated. Get educated. Get an Autoset II."

"Until a few weeks ago I did not know anything about sleep disorders, snoring and apneu-ing merrily with my wife in a separate room. Until I was told about the existence of CPAP and googled to cpap.com. Two days ago the Resmed S8 Autoset II with Mirage SoftGel mask was delivered. From the first try-out 2 days ago, my very first experience with any machine or mask, I felt extremely comfortable. The mask does not bother me a bit and the airflow is a pleasure. In a nutshell: in the last 2 nights the world has changed for me and my wife in a way that I never knew was possible."
Vast improvement

"This machine has everything I can think of. It is very quiet. The autosetting feature seems to work very well. I have been using it with a head cold and it even self adjusts for that! I like the smart on and off feature; no need to feel for buttons in the dark - just put on the mask to get it started and take off the mask to get it stopped. It is lightweight and small. It integrates well with the Humidiaire H4 humidifier and provides a "warmup" feature that is very nice. The only thing I can think of to complain about is that the filter is not washable; it is disposable."
