Product Overview

BreatheX is the CPAP that you can wear. There are no cords running from the wall to your machine and nothing on your nightstand. Instead, the CPAP is part of a soft airplane style pillow which can be worn or placed to your side as you sleep. The battery, which powers the machine, lasts one to two nights before needing a recharge.

BreatheX is a leap forward in CPAP technology.

User Review (cpaptalk.com's Mike Moran)

User Review (cpaptalk.com's Rested Gal)

BreatheX is the completely battery-powered CPAP that you wear to bed. Campers, aircraft personnel, long-haul truck drivers, business and leisure travelers, boaters and anyone else looking for a travel friendly CPAP no longer need to worry about outlets and power sources.

It's great for non-travelers, too. If you often get up in the night, BreatheX can go with you. It doesn't hamper you. It's just the thing for people who want to be free of long hoses, cords, and confined sleeping positions. Now, you can sleep anywhere you want, even your backyard hammock.

BreatheX is positioned inside a U-shaped neck pillow – like the pillows you see on airplanes. Made of soft memory foam, the pillow is ergonomically designed to be used in multiple positions. So you can wear it, or you can place it beside you, over you, wherever is most comfortable for you. You can use it anywhere you like. Even better, you'll no longer have medical equipment taking up half your nightstand.

Because BreatheX is placed so close to you, you don't need the standard 6-foot tube, so there's no pulling, no yanking, no getting tangled. Sleep on your back, or on either side. And move around as much as you want—BreatheX is ideal for active sleepers. When you move, the entire system—CPAP and mask—moves with you. So if you're one of those sleepers who just can't stay still, BreatheX will return comfort to your movement.

Best of all, it's compatible with just about any mask or nasal pillows system, so you can keep wearing your favorite interface.

CPAP.com Comments
Masks pictured are not included with this product.

Nearly all CPAP masks currently on the market will function with this CPAP. The ComfortCurve will not function with this CPAP.

The BreatheX has a range of 5-12 cm H2o. If your pressure is above 12, this is not the CPAP for you. If your pressure is 12 or below, this is a unit that you should seriously consider.

So far so good   December 20, 2006

(4 out of 5) by Craig S.

"I purchased this specifically for my trip oversea, it worked very well on the plane, although the flight attendent twice woke me because she thought I was using oxygen, and I had to explain that was not the case. I did not make use of it while at my hotel choosing instead to pack my Puritan Bennett 420 in my luggage for nightly use. One item of note about this CPAP or any other CPAP for anyone traveling on an overnight flight. Air France told me that they recently have banned the use of a CPAP machine's on their flights, saying that using the machines are too much of a disturbance to other passengers, so check with your airline carrier to discover whether or not you will be allowed to use your machine or not."

BreatheX   December 18, 2006

(3 out of 5) by Sharyl N.

"Even though it is battery powered, it seems like a very fragile machine. Just turning it 90 degrees on its side was enough to cut the power, thereby stopping the flow of air. This happened the first night I used it. Since then, I have been very careful to make certain it stays level and doesn't get turned on its side.

If this is what might happen while tent camping, I'm hesitant to rate this with more than 3 stars.

It would be great to get 2 nights' sleep from it, but 1.5 nights was all it gave without a recharge."

Breathe X portable CPAP   November 02, 2006

(2 out of 5) by Steven K.

"In general, I like the concept of a battery operated machine. I frequently make long, overnight flights, and this is a big help. I recently made a trip to Germany. The CPAP worked fine on the plane, but when I arrived in Germany, it would not hold a charge. I would get a low battery alarm after 1 hour of sleep. Because of my sleep apnea, I had 2 weeks of very bad sleep. It is a design flaw of this machine that it cannot be used with AC back-up. If I had it to do over again, I would have bought your less expensive machine that allows AC back-up. My machine has been replaced under warranty, but I don't know if I can trust it in the future for an extended trip.
Steven K., M.D."

October 30, 2006

(5 out of 5) by Gary F.

"So far, I am totally unimpressed. I have attempted to use the Breathex for 3 consecutive nights. The batteries are fully charged. One night it ran all night. The other 2 nights it shuts off after 2-3 hours of operation. The on/off button is nowhere close to an area that I could accidentally push it in my sleep, so I have not figured out what is causing this malfunction yet."

BreatheX   October 22, 2006

(4 out of 5) by Craig B.

"Its cool:

1. I can finally sleep in a tent.

2. In a hotel, I don't have to find the only outlet within reach that usually seems to be behind the bed.

3. I don't wear it like portrayed in the ad. I place it next to me on the bed, and its nice to use a shorter air hose.

4. The product seems very high quality and quiet.

I would rate it a 5 except for:

1. When travelling, I check out of the hotel in the morning and hit the road. How do I charge it while I'm moving all day.

2. When not travelling, I have to remember to plug in the charger.

3. Its bigger than some other models available, but it doesn't need an outlet.

Solution for issue 1 is my low pressure setting allows for two nights on a single charge - or buy an extra battery. Or if there is a charger available, one extra battery could be charging while using the other battery in the BreatheX. Unfortuneatly, it won't charge while the machine is in operation.

The convenience outweighs the drawbacks however.

Craig"
