About 40 percent of people who use a CPAP machine and just about all BiLevel machine users lose pressure directly from the mouth. This happens usually through leaks from the mouth or via mouth breathing while wearing a nasal mask. The resulting loss in pressure may bring about flu-like characteristics, inadequate sleep therapy, and disrupted sleep. Since the Ultra Mirage full face mask covers both the nose and mouth it prevents pressure loss from mouth breathing thereby improving both your comfort and your sleep therapy.
The Ultra Mirage full face mask is a great solution if you have frequent nasal congestion or it can be useful to have on hand in case you catch a cold or have bothersome allergies.
Advantages
The forehead support adjusts in up to 4 different positions increasing stability and providing optimum comfort.
Supple and bendable forehead pads adapt to the shape of your forehead to provide a comfortable fit and quality seal.
Mirage cushion technology keeps you from having to over-tighten your headgear while it provides a great seal relieving discomfort and preventing aching sores from pressure points.
The headgear is designed with quick clips allowing for fast and convenient removal of the mask without the need to re-adjust the headgear.
Excellent air flow and integrated exhalation vents provide effective CO2 washout to make sure the sleep therapy is productive, even at a lower air flow.

"I have found the mask to be the most comfortable fit of any of the mask I have tried. I just wish the headgear were a little more adjustable. In order to get it to fit me comfortably I have to roll the top strap over a full turn. Other than that I think it fits very well considering I have a full beard."
A lot less leaks!

"I initially bought the Resmed Mirage Quattro full face and had leaks every night ! I tried it at the sleep study and had the same issues. The nurse said it was something I would need to work on. After 10 nights with at least 3 major leaks EVERY night - getting fed up with it and very poor compliance - I decided I would try to Mirage Ultra. MUCH BETTER!
Admittedly I have to make it pretty tight so that it doesn't leak because my pressure is very high and only settles at around 18 - but still - IT WORKS even at 18.
I VASTLY prefer the comfort of this mask. The Quattro seems to cut into the eyes where as this mask fits comfortably over the nose. The head piece is pretty much the same. The Ultra has 4 easy to remove clips - much better in my opinion than the Quattro's 2 bottom ones.
Bottom line : A better mask than the Quattro - it's cheaper too!"
Do I need training for this mask??

"I've been using a nasal mask for 15 years, and at a recent sleep study to renew my prescription, the tech suggested I might try a full-face. I ordered the UltraMirage with the return insurance.
The mask was comfortable enough during a fit test, and I liked the snap-in clips for easy removal and no readjustment. However, I just could not get the hang of it with the CPAP turned on - in fact, within about a minute I was feeling sick to my stomach and bloating like a dead toad! While I keep my mouth closed without any effort with a nasal mask, my cheeks were blown out with the full-face, which I can't understand. My mouth was wide open and I couldn't close it! I tried again a couple of nights later, and lasted about thirty seconds.
There was nothing in the mask literature about any sort of special usage considerations or instructions (the usual care & maintenance of course).
So much ffor an experienced sleep tech's advice! Maybe a full-face is just not for me. I'm really glad I bought the insurance for this mask though, as it's relatively expensive."
The best of a bad lot
January 22, 2010
(3 out of 5) by James S, Littleton, CO
"The CPAP masks I've used, in general, have been remarkably badly designed. The Ultra Mirage full face CPAP mask is no exception, but it's the best of a bad lot.
It seals to my face adequately, and can be adjusted (assuming I ignore the instructions) so that the lower strap of the headgear rests on my skull instead of my neck, so it doesn't give me headaches or lose pressure every time my head moves from the prescribed position while sleeping.
The exhaust vent is acceptably quiet, though its positioning on the bridge of the nose does blow air into my eyes on occasion, but not too much.
The mask's safety valve, that lets air in if the CPAP fails in the middle of the night, has failed on two occasions, abruptly making the mask useless (or it would have, had I not been in the habit of keeping my previous Ultra Mirage's around for spare parts).
I've spent a lot of money trying to find better masks, but I keep coming back to the Ultra Mirage, because its design compromises are the easiest to live with, and I'm used to them, and it's not obscenely expensive."

"This mask lasts about 6-9 months. The one complaint I have is that it makes a mark on my face that takes a couple hours to go away. As the seals gets worn, I can still snore some."
