This is the card reader that allows ResMed CPAP users to download information from a ResScan Smart Card for processing by ResScan software. Connect the card reader to your PC via a USB connection.
ResMed products are for sale only to patients within the U.S. and not to other third parties or businesses.
All services provided by CPAP.com, including advertisement, ordering, sale, delivery, instruction, and setup of the products are performed solely by CPAP.com and independently of the manufacturer.
Important Tips
As an alternative download-capable product, you can use the ResScan USB Adapter, which transfers data without the need of a Card Reader or Smart Card.
"Last January I ordered the S8 Advantage together with the Rescan software and reader. since then I have been able to actively manage my sleep apneaand adjust the settings to minimize hyponeas and apnea events. I sleep better and am pleaased with the drop in weight and increased energy.
Recently my computer suffered a failed power supply and took out the card reader. Hence the current reader is a replacement and after reloading the resmed software in the repaired computer the software and reader quickly synched and I have been able to "redownload the entire 12 months of data into the computer. I am very pleased and appreciate that I am able to actively manage my health. I will provide my MD with a full download of my progress to help him assess my overall health."

Need software to use
Ron – January 31, 2008
"I had thought that this card reader would be similar to a flash memory reader like you would use for your digital camera. However, it does not create a device that you can see in windows explorer Instead, it is similar to a credit card reader in that it does not directly allow easy access to the data. In order to access the data, you will need ResScan software or the technical ability to download the data through modem like communication. Even if are able to get to the data using the latter method, it is possible that there is some proprietary programming that will stop you from accessing the data.
In summary, don't buy the reader without the ResScan software."
"Durable device that seems to work well. I had a slight bit of difficulty getting it to work the first time, but since then it's been fine. I recommend this unit if you are trying to read RESMED data cards."
*Note: The older pre-M Respironics CPAP, APAP and BiPAP Pro 2 with Bi-Flex, the ResMed S7 VPAP III, S8 Elite, and the Puritan Bennett Goodnight 420S, 420SP, and 420E record full data.
What does CPAP software do?
CPAP software allows the downloading of information from certain CPAP machines. Information on breathing, pressure levels delivered, apneas, etc. is available to help determine the effectiveness of CPAP therapy. Software is not required to operate a CPAP machine. CPAP Software also provides more data than obtained through the on screen display or SmartCode. The CPAP Software also allows you and your doctor to drill into any night of data recorded and view the data on an hour by hour basis.
Some CPAP manufacturer maintains a proprietary software package that is only compatible with their machines.

Advance software includes compliance data and provides more detail such as AHI (Apnea/Hypopnea Index), Leakage, most pressure used, and a detailed usage histogram.
Compliance software is available with some standard CPAP machines. Advanced software is available with most top of the line CPAP machines, APAPs, and Bi-level machines as well.
How do I interpret my data?
Software data can be interpreted by your physician or clinician. There are also many websites and search engines available to help you research the sleep apnea related terms which will provide you more knowledge in managing your own cpap therapy. CPAPtalk.com. our free Sleep Apnea forum is a great resource for CPAP users who want to understand their condition and take control over their health.
