"I purchased both this full face mask and nasal pillow. I purchased this face mask for use during allergy season when my nasal pillow is most likely not to work well enough. It is easy to attach, comfortable when fitted properly and not too tight. It�s pretty easy to put on and take off for a full face mask. I can sleep on my side/stomach with little problem once my pillow is positioned properly. I CAN NOT sleep on my back so being able to sleep on my side/stomach is A MUST. I prefer the nasal pillow overall but this is a good 2nd choice for me during allergy season. I recommend this mask for those who require a full face mask. I purchased this mask with insurance but do not need it since I am pleased with the fit and size. I used the mask sizing assistance on CPAP.com and it works and seals well. I am very pleased with this choice of mask. It works well with my S9 Autoset."

"The Mirage Liberty Full Face mask is excellent as it frees the nose from pressure that other full face masks exert. The only drawback is that one needs to adjust very carefully the upper and lower straps in order to prevent leakage from the nasal pillows. One should take his time when adjusting, not to rush. It seems best to slack trhe upper strap and tighten a bit the lower one that runs over the jaw. I found this way to be most optimum to reduce leakage from the nasal pillows."

"I have 2 nasal masks that I have used in the past (mirage swift LT for her and Comfortgel by Respironics). My husband wanted me to try a full face mask because of some air leaking from my mouth when I used the nasal masks.

I tried this mask, and the nasal pillows don't have enough support. Without enough support, they have a tendency to lose the seal, and it is very difficult to regain that seal for some reason. The oral portion of the mask works well, but has a tendency to dry out my mouth, so I turned up the humidity settings, which helped. I used this mask for a couple nights, but i'm not sure i'll continue with it.

That said, this mask is the only one that would fit my small face. All the other full face masks would rest in the corners of my eyes, causing a lot of leakage into my eyes. (I spent some time trying on masks locally before buying this one online.)"

How often should I replace my mask?

Medicare allows for mask cushion replacement every three (3) months and complete mask system replacement every six (6) months. CPAP manufacturers and vendors suggest these replacement schedules as well.

In our experience, most mask cushions begin to deteriorate after about six months of use. The silicone eventually becomes too soft to hold a seal and headgear straps must be tightened more and more to get the same quality seal.

We strongly suggest replacing cushions and pillows as soon as they start to soften. Air leaks may reduce the effectiveness of CPAP therapy and headgear that is too tight may cause facial sores at pressure points. You can also replace the headgear of your mask if it is stretched out or the Velcro worn out.

How do I care for my mask?

Masks should be washed daily in warm water with baby shampoo and left to air dry. Never use antibacterial soap as it will break down the silicone of the mask. Avoid soaps with lotion or lanolin which can coat the mask and cause it to lose its seal. A safe cleaner is the Control III Disinfectant CPAP Cleaning Solution. Remember to go to bed with a clean face, this will improve your seal and protect the lifespan of your mask.
The best time to clean your mask is in the morning so that the oils from your skin are removed. We recommend using mask wipes to make daily morning cleanings easy. The mask wipes are made from materials that will not break down your mask.

Why might I prefer a nasal pillow mask?

Nasal pillow delivery systems offer less contact with the face than either full face or traditional nasal masks. This system works well for those who tend to feel closed in or claustrophobic. Many nasal pillow systems have nothing that cross in front of the bridge of the nose allowing for a clear line of sight for reading or watching TV.

It can be easier to achieve a seal with this system, because there is less for you to adjust and less surface area to create and hold a seal.

Nasal pillow systems may work well for someone with a mustache or beard as the seal occurs only at the nares or nasal opening.

Someone who has a facial mole or scar near or around the nose, may find getting a seal with a traditional nasal mask difficult. Nasal pillows are an option in this circumstance.

Most nasal pillow masks also come with all sizes included to make finding the right size easier.

Why might I need a full face mask?

If your mouth drops open during sleep, a full face may be selected to allow for the CPAP airflow to be delivered through both the nose and mouth.

Some CPAP users move to using a full face mask after finding that using a nasal mask along with a chinstrap does not meet their sleep therapy needs. Some CPAP users use a full face mask when suffering from seasonal allergies.
