Comfortable mask when adjusted right

"This mask is comfortable and the plastic is very soft and pliable. I just had my first successful night with it after the first three nights of trials. The key with this mask is to play with it, play with it, play with it until you get it right. You're not going to adjust your strap tension one time and then be all done.
On the whole this mask seals very well with no leaks at the bridge of the nose like most other masks do. With minimal tension the mask does seal even at my high pressure of 15cm H2O. It also stays sealed through a very high range of motion of turning your head. It does not stay sealed if you contort your face like what might happen when your face muscles become very relaxed during sleep- those leaks that happen when you contort your face are the ones that must be compensated for by snugging up the straps.
Other full face masks are closer to a medical anesthesia mask with their design. This mask is closer to a dust mask or respirator with it's design. It's no wonder they use this mask in sports medicine because once you get it set up right you have an incredible freedom of movement and it doesn't lose it's seal at all. The only time when it does start to lose it's seal is if you really start to relax your face/jaw muscles and your face sort of pulls itself out of the mask in those areas. The key point with this mask is to keep playing with the strap tension until you find a balance between tightness and having too much leak potential. The mask will seal and hold it's seal through a wide range of movement with the straps tightened at a fairly low tension, but any kind of relaxing your jaw or contorting your face will cause a big leak. So you need to tighten the straps until those types of leaks don't happen anymore. If you wanted to, though, you could keep on tightening for every little leak until the mask got so tight that it was painful. You have to accept that a certain amount of relaxing or contorting your face will cause some leakage- but those kinds of movements hopefully won't happen while you're asleep.
This mask is fairly "sharp" and what I mean by that is the points of contact with high pressure are quite narrow. As a result this mask leaves a lot more red pressure marks on your face in the morning- they are the kind that go away pretty quickly, but they're there. The straps are sort of narrow, so likewise, those can tend to dig in especially on the back of your neck.
This mask would be awesome if you only had to wear it for two or three hours at most, or if you could get away with minimal tension on the straps. Unfortunately it's not perfect and you need to snug up until most of the leaks that happen with facial contortion are gone and that puts it just on the other side of comfortable. It's comfortable enough while you lay in bed falling asleep but by morning time your face has had enough and you really want to get it off. It does do it's job well. It seals very well with a moderate amount of strap tension. The amount of tension that I have to use is just a bit too much, and I really want it off in the morning, and it leaves red marks (but they go away fairly quickly.)"

"After trying just about every full-face mask, this is the one that fits me the best. I love the chin piece and the fact it does not attach to my forehead. Also the wicked sores on my nose are gone. I love my this mask!"

"Mask is too hard at nose contact. Headgear fits too low on neck causing discomfort and changing mask tightness when head is moved back and forward."

when they say smaller than normal they mean it.

"I think the mask is right on the edge of being perfect for me as a side sleeper, unfortunately I'll never know because I measured my face with digital calipers, 5.05, the medium size starts at 5.00, so I bought medium.
SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT SMALL!!! SERIOSLY, THEY ARE NOT KIDDING ABOUT BUYING SMALLER THAN NORMAL AND ERRORING ON THE SIDE OF SMALLER. </END RANT>
Consequently I have to really crank down the headgear so it doesn't leak, which leaves marks on my face for hours.
Now the only real design flaw I can identify is the vent. The vent is located in the intake elbow where it makes the 90 turn from the hose to the mask. This location means that when you exhale, you change the incoming airflow significantly. In other words, this mask is very loud. My wife complained that she had to wear earplugs the two nights I actually tried to wear it.
I think this mask would be loud even if I had the right size, but if they could vent it through holes in the actual mask like every other mask this thing would be really comfortable."

"So far I have worn six full face masks: two from ResMed, one from Fisher Paykel, one from Probasics, one from Respironics, one from Hans Rudolph and one from InnoMed. The full face mask that has been the most satisfactory for me is the Han Rudolph 7600 Series V2. I am currently wearing my second HR V2. The face piece is a single piece mask made of soft silicone rubber with a facial sealing flange. One advantage of a flexible face mask is that you can push inward to releive an itch or irritation on the face or nose after the mask in secured on the face. The face mask design is anatomicaly contoured with a ribbed support for a leak free comfortable fit. This provides for a tight seal on my face and nose. Since I have used the HR V2 the tender and sometimes bloody sore on the bridge of my nose has healed. The HR V2 has an integrated chin support that keeps the mask in its optimal position. I find that this eliminates the guesswork about whether I have the mask postitioned correctly on my face. The HR V2 has an anti-asphyxia valve which allows me to breathe room air if the flow device malfunctions. The elbow port turns through 360 degrees which gives me better freedom of movement. The HR V2 can easily be disconnected from my CPAP machine by the detachable swivel port. I do not need to disconnect any straps and completely take off my mask to go out of my bedroom. The HR V2 does not have a forehead support. For me, forehead supports always need readjusting and are not comfortable on my forehead. The HR V2 has quick-release strap clips. The bottom pair have small pull handles and can easily be identified from the upper two which are smooth and do not have pull handles. The HR V2 is very easy to clean with soap and water. I take a medium size in most full face masks. The Hans Rudolph V2 runs one size smaller that most other full face masks. I take a small size for the HR V2 mask but for other full face masks I need size medium."
