Instructions for Installing Encore Card Reader
Be aware that you will need to load the EncoreViewer Software before attaching the Smart Card Reader. Once the disc labeled "EncoreViewer Software for Windows" is installed, attach the Card Reader. The hardware will install without a CD if your computer already has drivers loaded. If the computer asks to load drives, use the disc labeled SmartCard Reader/Writer "Installation wizard for the software drivers. For Windows OS".
This package does not include a Smart Card.
Here are links to information that may be helpful in using this card reader:
"I bought this card reader to read my Smartcard with Encore Viewer software. It is small and easy to use (I keep it plugged into a USB port. When I use it, I insert the Smart card.)
If you are using Encore Viewer, don not attempt to install the driver that comes with the card as Encore Viewer will install its own driver. Keep the card reader plugged in as you install Encore Viewer. (I had a bit of trouble initially and called Respironics. When I followed these instructions, it worked like a charm).
I use it every morning to check the results of the previous night's therapy."

"I was unable to load data off my SmartCard. I kept getting an error message a little over half way through the process.
I haven't been able to reach Respironics technical support yet."
"I got the smart card reader and software in order to track my Apap usage. As a software engineer, I found the interface to be incredibly cumbersome and the standard software to be gutted to the point of being virtually useless.
Not worth your time and effort."

"It's really good to be able to track my results."
CPAP software allows the downloading of information from certain CPAP machines. Information on breathing, pressure levels delivered, apneas, etc. is available to help determine the effectiveness of CPAP therapy. Software is not required to operate a CPAP machine. CPAP Software also provides more data than obtained through the on screen display or SmartCode. The CPAP Software also allows you and your doctor to drill into any night of data recorded and view the data on an hour by hour basis.
Some CPAP manufacturer maintains a proprietary software package that is only compatible with their machines.

Compliance software provides data such as patient hours, total machine operating hours, your pressure setting, and pressure relief information. Advance software includes compliance data and provides more detail such as AHI (Apnea/Hypopnea Index), Leakage, most pressure used, and a detailed usage histogram.
Compliance software is available with some standard CPAP machines. Advanced software is available with most top of the line CPAP machines, APAPs, and Bi-level machines as well.
How do I interpret my data?
Software data can be interpreted by your physician or clinician.
