Flow-Rounding Technology

Doctors use the Adherence percentage score to determine whether a user is in compliance with BiLevel LCD (Local Coverage Determination). Important Tips

Most Brand Name manufacturers' BiLevels operate at 30dBA or higher and come standard with only a two year warranty. DeVilbiss now comes with an industry leading, 3-year warranty service and is ultra-quiet operating at only 26dBA.

The power supply is internal for the IntelliPAP line. There is no bulky power adapter or brick.

We expect the LEXAN and stainless steel humidifier chamber to last much longer than other units in this price range.

Please note: Water damage to the machine will void the manufacturer warranty.

Firmware Updates

DeVilbiss offers free firmware upgrades for the IntelliPAP Series of CPAP machines. For example, The AutoAdjust update allows existing owners to add SmartCode and SmartFlex technologies. You can check for the most recent firmware update here: Model DV5 Series Firmware Updates.

Once you have downloaded the firmware software, use the IntelliPAP CPAP to PC Firmware Upgrade Serial Cable to upload your DeVilbiss firmware to the machine from your computer. The cable connects to the back of the CPAP and to any PC serial port on your computer.

IntelliPAP users must have a PC serial port available for the firmware upgrade to work. The DeVilbiss software only supports a serial connection; USB-to-USB or other connections will not work. If your computer does not come with a serial port, CPAP.com provides a USB male to Serial male (9-pin) DB-9 RS-232 adapter that allows users to update their IntelliPAP CPAP machines through your computer's USB port. If you do not have a serial port available, then you will need to buy both cords together: IntelliPAP Firmware Upgrade Cable with USB-to-Serial PC Adapter.

Bacteria Filters

A bacteria filter will not install directly to the air outlet port on the IntelliPAP Heated Humidifier. The filter is too bulky and there is not enough space. IntelliPAP humidifier owners can order the FlexiTube Angle Adapter for CPAP and BiPAP Machines to provide a spacer between the humidifier and the bacteria filter. Your CPAP hose can then fit onto the other end of the bacteria filter.

This machine comes with a 3 Year Manufacturer Warranty. CPAP.com will work with the manufacturer on your behalf if the machine needs repairs. Please follow these steps:

"I had a 4 year old Goodknight machine that I used for holidays but this year when I got it out of the cupboard it came up with error messages and the quote to fix it was $600. So I bought this machine to replace it.
First impression, really nice bit of kit, small easy to use, light weight, quiet. There was a small bit of vibration the first time I turned it on so I put it on a rubber mouse mat and that cured it.
I test my blood oxygen level every morning and since using this machine it has never been higher, 99% some mornings.
I travel over Europe and the Far East and the power voltage adjusts automaticly and it has no transformer to lug around just a power lead. On arrival in a new country I go to the airport techie shop and buy a lead with a local plug for a computer, the same lead fits the Intellipap so I don't have to mess about with plugs and adaptors. The ability to connect to a 12V batters is essential for some of the places I visit.
The software does not start to give reports until you have used it 30 days so I have not got the benefit of the free results service yet but I am looking forward to playing with that in the future. All in all a good bit of kit and great as a travel machine"

"I have had this machine less than a week, but from my experience so far with it, I can say that it is eons more sophisticated than my clunky rental from my oxygen provider. I am in a very dry climate so I knew that I would need to purchase the heated humidifier. Both units work well in tandem and since I need to use the humidifier at a setting of 9, I also use a Hose Buddy sleeve to keep the air hose warm thus preventing condensation building up in the hose.

I was a little leery buying this machine outright, but so far, I am pleased with my purchase."

What comes with my machine?

Machines come with a six foot hose, power cord, at least one filter, and manuals. Most manufacturers include a carrying case which is designed specifically for their equipment. CPAP / BiPAP / APAP machines do not come with a delivery system or mask. CPAP Masks must be purchased separately.

Do all CPAPs use filters?

Yes, all CPAPs use at least one filter that is usually a type of foam material and washable. Some CPAPs offer finer filtration with the addition of a disposable paper filter.

Cleaning and changing filters is the only maintenance required for a CPAP machine.

The filters are located at the back of the machine at the air intake. The image below shows the black foam filter at the back of the Everest 3 CPAP Machine.

Are prescriptions required for mask, machine and/or humidifier purchases?

What is exhalation relief?

Exhalation relief is a comfort feature offered by two manufactures which reduces the air flow at the time of exhalation making the breathing process more natural.

Respironics = C-Flex, C-Flex+, A-Flex and Bi-Flex
Resmed = EPR (Expiratory Pressure Relief)

What maintenance is required on machines?

The only care required for machines is to clean or change the filters at the air intake of the machine to keep the internal parts from accumulating dust.

There are other suggested actions to care for your machine:

Keep the area around your machine clean. Remove any dust from around your machine to improve the air quality delivered to your machine.
Keep the air intake of the machine unblocked. Curtains, bedding, and papers can easily block the air intake of your machine, reducing the airflow to your machine.
If you have a humidifier, it is suggested that you do not pick up the machine with the humidifier attached. With most machines, it is easy to spill water from the humidifier into the machine and cause damage. To avoid this, it is suggested to remove the machine from the humidifier instead of transporting them together.
If you have a humidifier, it is also suggested that you empty the water from the chamber every morning. Accidents happen. If a family pet, or family member moves the machine and humidifier, when there is water in the chamber, it is more likely an accident could happen where water is spilled into your machine.

What does CPAP software do?

CPAP software allows the downloading of information from certain CPAP machines. Information on breathing, pressure levels delivered, apneas, etc. is available to help determine the effectiveness of CPAP therapy. Software is not required to operate a CPAP machine. CPAP Software also provides more data than obtained through the on screen display or SmartCode. The CPAP Software also allows you and your doctor to drill into any night of data recorded and view the data on an hour by hour basis.

Some CPAP manufacturer maintains a proprietary software package that is only compatible with their machines.

What types of Software are available?

There are two types of software available: Compliance software, and Advanced software.

Compliance software provides data such as patient hours, total machine operating hours, your pressure setting, and pressure relief information. Advance software includes compliance data and provides more detail such as AHI (Apnea/Hypopnea Index), Leakage, most pressure used, and a detailed usage histogram.

Compliance software is available with some standard CPAP machines. Advanced software is available with most top of the line CPAP machines, APAPs, and Bi-level machines as well.

How do I interpret my data?

Software data can be interpreted by your physician or clinician. There are also many websites and search engines available to help you research the sleep apnea related terms which will provide you more knowledge in managing your own cpap therapy. What is the difference BiPAP and BiPAP ST?

A BiPAP, also referred to as a Bi-Level or VPAP, alternates blowing two set pressures, a higher pressure for inhalation and a lower pressure for exhalation.

A BiPAP ST Machine is a non-invasive ventilator. ST stands for Spontaneous Timed.

A BiPAP has two set pressures but some patients require a back up timed response in which the BiPAP will initiate a breath if a breath is not taken within the set timed parameters.

For example, a BiPAP ST might be set with an inhale pressure of 10 and an exhale pressure of 5 with a BPM (BPM=Breath Per Minute) of 12. A BiPAP ST will not breathe for you but will initiate a breath if you do not inhale 12 times a minute.
