Power Supply and DC Cable

The External 80 Watt Power Supply for PR System One REMstar 60 Series Machines included in this product is NOT compatible with other versions of PR System One machines. The connection peg that plugs into a PR System One REMStar 60 Series machine is a specific size and will fit only these machines. The external power supply for these machines has different specifications than the External Power Supply for PR System One REMstar CPAP and BiPAP Machines used with other machines in the Philips Respironics lines. The Power Cord that plugs the external power supply into the wall outlet is the same for all System One machines.

Please Note This product includes:

  • PR System One Heated Tube for 60 Series Machines
  • 80 Watt External Power Supply

Philips Respironics packages their System One 60 Series machines sold without a humidifier with a 60 Watt External Power Supply. The 60 Watt power supply will not power the heated tube. When using the heated tube the 80 Watt External Power Supply included in with this humidifier must be used to successfully heat the tube. If a heated tube is not heating, check to be certain the 80 Watt power supply is being used.

Philips Respironics is developing a DC power cord for the 60 Series Machines but it is not yet available. When the DC power cord compatible with the PR System One 60 Series Machines is available it will be carried by CPAP.com. The 12 Volt DC Power Cord (connects CPAP to cigarette lighter socket) used with other PR System One machines is NOT compatible with the PR System One 60 Series Machines.

Identifying PR System One REMStar 60 Series Machines

There are physical characteristics that identify a PR System One REMStar 60 Series Machine. The humidifier capable of being used with the heated tube cannot physically be connected to any other version of machine in the PR System One line. The heated tube is 72 inches in length.

  1. Color
    • PR System One REMStar 60 Series Machines are charcoal gray with metallic silver side and instrument panels.
    • Other PR System One units are dark gray with ivory-colored side and instrument panels.
  2. Branding
    • PR System One REMStar 60 Series Machines have the words "System One" in raised or embossed letters stamped in silver on both the machine and humidifier.
    • Other PR System One units do not have raised lettering, the branding information is painted onto the unit.
  3. Machine and Humidifier Connections
    • PR System One REMStar 60 Series Machines have a 6 pin connection between the machine and humidifier.
    • Other PR System One Units have a 4 pin connection between the machine and humidifier
    • PR System One REMStar 60 Series Machines have a mechanical connection between the machine and humidifier
    • Other PR System One Units have 2 tabs on the humidifier that fit into 2 slots on the machine.

    • The label on the bottom of the machine lists the part number. For instance, the label on the bottom of the PR System One REMStar 60 Series Auto CPAP lists: "REMStar Auto"; "REF" of 560P; and Serial Number identified by "SN". The number 560 references the part number of the machine.
    • The label on the bottom of other versions of System One machines lists: Machine name; "REF" that does not have the number "6" in the second position from the left; and Serial Number identified by "SN". For example the label on the bottom of a PR System One REMstar Auto CPAP Machine with A-Flex lists "REMStar Auto" and "REF" of 550P. The number 550 references the part number of the machine.

System One 60 Series Heated Tube Set-Up

Philips Respironics provides these instructions for setting up the heated tube: System One 60 Series Heated Tube Set-Up

Please note: The manufacturer warranty is voided by water damage or misuse of the machine.

Hose Information

In addition to the Heated Hose that works with the System One 60 Series Machines, a traditional CPAP hose can be used. Set the size of hose you will be using in the Set-Up Menu under "Tubing Type". Select either 15 mm or 22 mm depending on the size tube being used.

Maximum Fill Level Tips

  • Do not fill the water tank above the maximum fill line. Damage to the humidifier or therapy device may occur. If the water tank is overfilled, water may leak out of the tank inlet (located on the back of the tank) when installing the tank lid.
  • Use only room temperature distilled water in the tank. Do not put any chemicals or additives into the water. Possible airway irritation or damage to the water tank may result.
  • Remove the tank, empty all water, and replace the empty tank before transporting the humidifier base.
  • Do not attempt to fill the water tank while it is inside the humidifier.
  • To avoid spilling, do not disconnect the humidifier from the therapy device with water in the tank. Remove the water tank from the humidifier before disconnecting the therapy device.
  • Do not turn the humidifier on without the water tank installed. The Humidifier number setting must remain on 0 if there is no water in the water tank.
  • The humidifier door must be set in the open position before removing the water tank. Do not remove the water tank without making sure that the humidifier door locks into the open position.
  • Do not move the humidifier while the water tank has water in it.

Philips Respironics System One Humidifier Modes PR System One REMstar 60 machines version 1.22 or higher has two humidification modes:

  • Classic Humidification
  • System One Humidification

Version Note: To determine the version of software installed on a PR System One REMStar 60 machine, unplug the machine and plug it back into an outlet. The version is displayed on the screen when the unit is first plugged into an outlet. The humidification settings are displayed only when a PR System One Heated Humidifier is attached to the machine.

Classic Mode Humidification

The Classic mode of humidification allows the CPAP user to control the heat setting on the humidifier. The user will select "Classic" mode settings C1,C2, C3, C4 or C5. The "C" in front of the humidification setting indicates "Classic". C1 is the lowest level of humidification and C5 is the highest level of humidification.

Please Note: If the PR System One Heated Tube for 60 Series Machines is attached to the humidifier the Classic mode humidification will not be offered, only System One Humidification mode. To use the Classic mode of humidification attach a non-heated tube to the humidifier.

System One Humidification Mode

The System One Humidification uses the technology of the system to set the level of humidification delivered. The machine makes the decision based on the humidity present in the room air. The CPAP user decides how much they want to receive. A setting of 1 delivers the lowest humidity level and a setting of 5 delivers the highest level. The humidification setting will show 1 - 5. The letter "C" will NOT precede the number.

Passover Humidification, Heat Off

To turn the heated humidifier off, set the humidifier to zero "0". The air from the machine will pass over the water in the chamber acting as a passover Humidifier.

Setting the Humidification Mode and Level:

  1. The humidifier menu will only show when the humidifier is attached to the machine.
  2. Using the wheel on the machine, select "Setup" menu.
  3. Scroll down the menu offerings to locate: "SYSTEM ONE humidification".
  4. Set to "On" to allow the technology of the machine to set the amount of humidification delivered to the system based on the setting of 1 -5. When in the SYSTEM ONE humidification mode there is no letter indicator next to the number.
  5. Set to "Off" to control the heat setting manually. The letter "C" is displayed in front of the humidification number to indicate "Classic". C1 is the lowest heat setting and C5 is the highest heat level.
  6. Set the humidification level by adjusting the number to the right of "Humidifier", the menu item below SYSTEM ONE humidification. 1 is the least and 5 is the most humidification.

Why am I congested from CPAP use?
The primary reason nasal passages can dry out from CPAP use is lack of adequate humidification.

CPAP air is an irritant - to one degree or another - to everyone. The irritation may cause the nasal passages to dry out and bleed, or the mucous membranes may try to protect the nasal passages by producing excess mucous, resulting in congestion. The irritation can be cumulative, developing over time. Furthermore, dry, cracked or bleeding nasal passages are a breeding ground for infection.

Add a Heated Humidifier to add moisture to the CPAP air and reduce or eliminate the irritation. A passover humidifier may not offer enough moisture. If you are already using a heated humidifier, try turning it up to a higher setting. If that produces condensation in the six foot hose, you should try an Insulating Cover for the hose. You can also try using a Nose Lubricant to reduce the dryness.

You can also try using a Sinus Rinse before going to bed and again once you wake in the morning to help clear your sinuses.

NeilMed Sinus Rinse
Why is my mouth dry in the morning?
Dry mouth is a sign that you are opening your mouth while you sleep. If you use a nasal mask, breathing through your mouth bypasses any humidification you may be using so increasing the heat will not be effective. Breathing through your mouth while using a nasal mask reduces the benefit of CPAP therapy.

First, be sure the mask is not leaking. If the mask is six to nine months old and leaking, try replacing it. If it is new and leaking, the fit could be incorrect. We can help you find a mask with a great fit.

If your mask is new and NOT leaking, try a Chinstrap to keep your jaw up and mouth from dropping open during sleep. If a chinstrap doesn't solve the problem, try masks recommended for Mouth Breathers.

If you use a full face mask and have a dry mouth, try adding a Heated Humidifier to add moisture.

Here are some items we recommend that may help with dry mouth:

Heated Humidifiers
Full Face Masks
Chinstraps
Heated Tubing
What can I do for sinus and congestion relief?
A lot of new CPAP users report having an increase in sinus congestion after starting CPAP therapy. When treating your obstructive sleep apnea, sinus congestion presents a roadblock to healthy breathing. CPAP air is an irritant - to one degree or another - to everyone. The irritation may cause the nasal passages to dry out and bleed, or the mucous membranes may try to protect the nasal passages by producing excess mucous and so congestion results.

The best option is to add a Heated Humidifier to add moisture to the CPAP air and reduce or eliminate the irritation. If you are already using a heated humidifier, try turning it up to a higher setting. If that produces condensation in the six foot hose, you should try an Insulating Cover for the hose. Other options are to:
  • Wait and see if humidification adjustments help decrease the congestion.
  • Visit your the ENT (ear nose and throat) doctor, and let them know you are on CPAP therapy.
  • Try using a Sinus Rinse before going to bed and again once you wake in the morning to help clear your sinuses.
As a general rule, those with obstructive sleep apnea should avoid using sedating medicines. Sedatives relax the muscles of the air passage even more and can effect your apneas. You should consult your doctor before using these types of medicines.

Here are some items we recommend that may help with sinus relief:

Heated Humidifiers
Bacteria Filters (5-Pack)

What are the benefits of using a humidifier?
Many CPAP users experience nasal congestion and dryness of the nose and throat during treatment. This can be especially problematic for new users who are adapting to treatment. Humidification adds moisture to the air helping to reduce the symptoms of dryness and congestion.

Nasal congestion also leads to mouth breathing, which perpetuates the problem of dryness. If this is an issue for you, try a heated humidifier.
What is a heated humidifier?
A heated humidifier uses heat to warm the water to add moisture to the airstream. The heat is adjustable for more or less moisture. A heated humidifier water chamber is much smaller than a passover humidifier water chamber.

In our experience, it is common for CPAP users to report that their therapy is greatly enhanced by the use of a heated humidifier.

There are three types of heated humidifiers:

What is a passover humidifier?
A passover humidifier uses a chamber of room temperature water with the CPAP to add moisture to the airflow and reduce irritation to the nasal passages.

Air flows from the CPAP through a short hose to the humidifier chamber where the air "passes over" the water to pick up whatever moisture it can. The air then flows into the six foot hose to the mask.

Passover humidifiers may provide sufficient moisture with CPAPs set at lower-end pressures. However, if the moisture is not sufficient there is no way to increase the amount of moisture added. The water is room temperature. In cold climates, the water temperature will drop causing the CPAP air to become very cold, and causing the amount of moisture to be reduced.
What is an integrated humidifier?
An integrated humidifier is used with a specific CPAP and fits directly onto the machine. For most heated humidifiers, this design eliminates the need for a second hose as well as a second power cord.

An advantage of an integrated humidifier is that it works very closely with the CPAP machine to deliver humidification. Also, an integrated humidifier is a compact unit that uses fewer parts to provide moisture to the user.

A disadvantage of the integrated humidifier is the user will receive less moisture when it is used with a passover humidifier. The smaller surface area effects the amount of moisture produced. Also, a integrated humidifier will only function with the CPAP for which it was designed.

You can see if your machine has an integrated humidifier option by reviewing our Compare Charts.

An example of an integrated humidifier is the PR System One Heated Humidifier as seen below attached to a machine in the PR System One line. PR System One Heated Humidifier

Here are some of the integrated humidifiers we carry:

DreamStation Heated Humidifier
Transcend Heated Humidifier
IntelliPAP 2 Heated Humidifier with Pulse Dose Humidification
PR System One 60 Series Heated Tube Humidifier with Heated Tube
What is a built in humidifier?
A "built in" humidifier is designed as a part of the CPAP machine and cannot be removed or separated from the CPAP machine. As with an integrated humidifier, the design eliminates the need for a second hose or power cord. The water chamber can be removed for cleaning or replacement purposes.

The advantage of a "built-in" humidifier is its compact shape, which operates on fewer parts. This integrated design helps to ensure optimum moisturized comfort and effectiveness when CPAP therapy and humidification are used together. Also, it allows an option for the humidification to be turned off while the CPAP is blowing.

A disadvantage is that a built in humidifier may produce less moisture if used as passover because the surface area is typically smaller. Also, since the humidifier is "built in" to the machine, detaching it is not an option. This can be an issue for frequent travelers. Lastly, if the machine or humidifier stops working, the entire unit must be sent in for repair or replacement, not just the component that failed.

An example of a machine with a built in humidifier is the ICON Auto CPAP Machine with Built In Heated Humidifier and SensAwake as seen below. ICON Auto CPAP Machine with Built In Heated Humidifier and SensAwake
Here are some other machines we carry with built-in humidifiers:

AirSense™ 10 CPAP Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier
AirSense™ 10 AutoSet CPAP Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier

Just a couple of little things ...

Verified purchase | Mar. 31, 2022 | Verified CPAP.com Customer
Overall, this replacement works well. Only complaints: heated tube comes apart from my mask more easily than previous tube. Also, unless I haven't looked close enough, the water container doesn't have a fill line.
