Important Tips
This is a replacement of the cable that is included with the purchase of the SilverLining software. It is approximately six feet long.
"Pretty straightforward. Got a USB 2.0 to serial cable compatible with windows 7 (FTDI chipset) for 14 bucks, and hooked this right up. Got some silverlining software from a friend and it gives me the info I need- AHI, leak rate, episodes. No, it's not like the details you get with the S9, and yes, you have to lug the machine up next to your computer, but this cable works well."
download cable for SL3 software

"This is the cable needed to attached to the serial port on the computer and to the data port on the GK420 series (mine is GK420e). The cable is fine, and does as expected.
A side note: My laptop does not have a serial port but does have USB ports. I have serial-to-usb cable conversion cable. I installed the drivers on the laptop for the s-to-usb cable then having installed the SL3 software, I tried it. After first saying the port was busy, I was able to get it to read the machine from "com 6" I don't know if I was able to get all the features since I'm new to SL3, but it did connect and give me data. Don't know if it will work for others this way, or if it's dependent on the laptop or OS but it did on my laptop."
