Proprietary Storage -- Too Bad
Marilyn A, New Orleans, LA – November 24, 2008
"From the stand point of being able to read data from a fully data capable CPAP on a daily, these cards are an essential part of CPAP therapy, and should be purchased by every CPAP user who has a data-capable Respironics machine.
However, my feeling is that Respironics made a serious mistake in going with a proprietary storage media (along with its proprietary card reader and proprietary software. The cards hold six months of compliance data, but only seven days (less if you take naps)of detailed information. Then the machine, without warning you that you are out of room, begins writing over the "old" data.
Despite the excellent prices offered by CPAP.COM, these cards, being proprietary, are very expensive for the amount of detailed data storage offered. Respironics would serve its end-use customers (the patients) much better by designing machines which could store data on standard flash drives. Or, they should redesign the Smart Card so that it can hold not only 6 months of compliance information, but six months of daily detailed information.
It is only the proprietary and low data volume factor which causes the low rating on this product. Otherwise, it performs as it is represented, and is a must for any person serious about their CPAP therapy. Just be aware that without a utility to extract and store the data (not provided by Respironics), or a good printer, you will either lose data, or you will be buying a large number of these cards."
"What can I really say. It's a Smartcard for a Respironics Device. It works without flaw. Don't believe there is an alternative out there so nothing to compare it to. If you need one buy one; it works."

"Received card in about 2 days and Cpap.com paid the shipping! Great service! Thanks!"
Kiralynx, LA – January 11, 2011
"Having several cards to record data on when traveling and not carrying a computer and card reader is a must. This product is pretty durable -- my cards appear to last around a year. My DME is entirely too slow about getting product to me, so it's best to have several extras on hand in case one decides to die (I ordered some from the SME the beginning od December; they have not yet arrived. I ordered 2 from CPAP.COM, and they arrived in two days). It rates a 4 instead of a 5 because Respironics did not design these cards and their software to hold more than seven sessions of detailed data. Otherwise, they would receive a 5."
CPAP software allows the downloading of information from certain CPAP machines. Information on breathing, pressure levels delivered, apneas, etc. is available to help determine the effectiveness of CPAP therapy. Software is not required to operate a CPAP machine. CPAP Software also provides more data than obtained through the on screen display or SmartCode. The CPAP Software also allows you and your doctor to drill into any night of data recorded and view the data on an hour by hour basis.
Some CPAP manufacturer maintains a proprietary software package that is only compatible with their machines.
