Key Product Information

    Manufacturer: Tiara

The SNAPP-X Direct Nasal Interface is an improvement to Tiara's original SNAPP Mask. The new prong sleeve design incorporates a multi-ported exhalation point and still provides an exclusive bellow prong that expands and compresses with patient movement and provides a comfortable, fail-safe seal even for those restless, rolling patients. The unique butterfly headgear attachments help keep constant pressure against the prongs and nose, keeping zero torque on the swivel elbows. To help create a solid seal around the elbows, Tiara includes a set of locking clips for all cushions keeping the airflow quiet, even at high pressures.

    • NEW Multi-ported exhalation port
    • NEW Locking clips for elbows
    • Cushioning bellows
    • Unique Butterfly headgear attachments
    • Special 360º Swivel Elbows
    • Several wearable configurations

The Small Size cushion is not compatible with size Medium, Large, and XL masks. There are two different size elbows and tubings. The Small Size cushion will not work with Multi-Size tubing.

Tiara has re-introduced an innovative nasal system called the SNAPP-X (Soft Nasal Accessory for Positive Pressure). Cushions are sized Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large. Most patients will take a Medium size.

There are three points for the mask to form a seal. A soft nasal "volcano" shape creates a double seal at the patient's nostrils. The prong is narrow at the top and bells out as it comes down to the cushion body, allowing the prong tips to insert into the nose to a depth of 1/8" to 1/4". This creates a soft seal in the interior of the nares. The pillow body at the end of the prong creates a simultaneous seal at the outer rim of the nares. Lastly, the cushion body seals once the head straps are adjusted for patient comfort.

This feature addresses the soreness patients often experience when a cushion obstructs only the inside of the nose. The bellows cushion has an added feature of swivel elbows on each side, that allow movement of 360 degrees. Patients have the freedom of wearing their CPAP hose up over their head or over the chest. The single exhalation port is found below the bellows cushion, thereby directing air flow downward, rather than onto a bed partner.

The headgear is a very simplistic design of just two straps, one fitted over the crown of the head and the other over the back of the head. The headgear attaches to the bellows on two soft butterfly flanges. If needed, a user would be able to place the mask on themselves using only one hand, once the straps are adjusted for comfort.

Clinical trails on the SNAPP-X have proven it to be not only comfortable and light weight, but perfect for the restless or claustrophobic patients.

Snapp X cpap interface   February 04, 2009

(5 out of 5) by Jean C, London, ON

"I began using this interface in June of 2008 and really like how it works for me. It is so minimal! There is a hardly any mask at all. It seals very well and is very comfortable. It is also very easy to put on and remove.

At this price, I was stocking up. I know this is not a popular mask, but for me, it is great! Since I am expecting them to not be available soon, at this great price, I stocked up."

"I'E BEEN WEARING THE SNAPP-X FOR THREE YEARS AND I FIND IT TO BE VERY COMFORTABLE AND RARELY LEAVES MARKS ON MY FACE. IN THE BEGINNING I DEVELOPED A SORE INSIDE MY NOSE BUT IT WENT AWAY SOON AFTER."

Old Snapp Better   January 24, 2009

(2 out of 5) by john

"I have used the Snapp mask since 05 and really like it. It gives me the freedom of movement I need plus I do not wake up in the mornings with the red dents in my face. It is also quite. The only problem with the Snapp was the elbows leak after about 6 months. The new Snapp-X has different elbows but it has a major drawback for me. The exhaust is way too loud. I do not know why as it is designed just like the Snapp. The new Snapp-X I have exhaust so much that I can tell a difference in the amount of air I need for the apnea. If you like a quite mask then I would not recommend the Snapp-X"

snap xx nasal prong mask   December 09, 2008

(3 out of 5) by John G, The Woodlands, TX

"I've only used this mask one night, but had to take it off. It was noisy, and kept coming loose and leaking, which was probably my fault However, it also irritated the inside of my nose and was therefore uncomfortable. I followed the instructions to fit it. I had to go back to my gel comfort mask which is much quieter and allows me to sleep on my side.

With the Snap-xx, every time I turned on my side, the mask leaked."

Noisy as heck   November 27, 2008

(3 out of 5) by Steve B, CO

"I read all the glowing reviews here and was looking forward to something a lot less cumbersome than my current Respironics Optilife nasal pillow mask with its chin strap that irritates my beard so much. I liked the design of the SNAPP-X because I have the choice of putting the air tube down on my chest or above the head without a "snorkel" running up between the eyes.

So I guess you could say I was predisposed to a good experience with the SNAPP-X. Not so, at all!! It is **way** noisier than the Optilife. If I were to guess, I'd say 5 to 7x more noisier. Simply put, it's unacceptable. My CPAP runs at 10cm and this thing keeps me from falling to sleep with the loud, constant hiss.

It *is* very comfortable so I wasn't disappointed in the fit at all but I'd advise the manufacturer to study their competition a bit more and come up with a less turbulent exhalation design.

The accompanying instructions are borderline negligent. Again, the Optilife comes with a picture card + a 30 page booklet with clear and easy to understand instructions whereas this thing has half a page of English on a thin, multi lingual booklet + a photo card."
