ResMed AirSense 10 CPAP Machine Review – Card-to-Cloud Model [Updated 2024]

Table of Contents

💡 Key Takeaways

  • Competent Therapy Device: The ResMed AirSense™ 10 is recognized for its effectiveness in treating sleep apnea, with advanced comfort features ensuring comfortable and effective therapy.
  • Two Versions Available: The AirSense 10 Card-to-Cloud offers the same comfort features, the same auto-adjusting algorithm, has the same dimensions, and provides the same reliable therapy as the standard AutoSet model; it just doesn’t support wireless data tracking and can’t pair with ResMed’s companion app. The AutoSet model also comes with heated tubing while it’s merely optional with the Card-to-Cloud.
  • Quiet and Unintrusive: With an auto-dimming LCD and quiet blower motor, the AirSense 10 delivers whisper-quiet therapy to keep bedroom disturbance to a minimum.
  • Unbeatable Price: The Card-to-Cloud model provides feature-rich therapy at a fraction of the cost and is a great choice if you don’t need to regularly report compliance data or make significant changes to your therapy.

The ResMed AirSense 10 is one of the most well-loved CPAP machines to date and is the quietest CPAP on the market. While previously, there was a full fleet of AirSense 10 devices to choose from, only two remain now: the Card-to-Cloud variant and the Bluetooth AutoSet model.

To help you decide on the best CPAP machine for your sleep apnea therapy, today we’ll be reviewing the AirSense 10 and outlining the differences between the Card-to-Cloud and AutoSet models.

How do These Differences Affect My Therapy?

Though some will see the AirSense 10 Card-to-Cloud as a ‘watered down’ version of its counterpart, it still offers all of the comfort features you can expect from an industry-leading machine. If data tracking, compliance reporting, and sharing your therapy data with an employer or healthcare provider isn’t that important to you, the Card-to-Cloud model is a competent choice at an incredibly affordable price point.

The AirSense 10 AutoSet boasts a number of desirable features, and the AirSense 10 Card-to-Cloud is no different in that regard.

You’ll find the same capabilities that made the original AirSense 10 successful, including a color LCD with an integrated light sensor, SmartStart™, which automatically delivers therapy air as soon as you put on the mask, AutoRamp, which waits until you fall asleep to ramp up to your prescribed pressure, and EPR adjustable pressure relief that makes it easier to exhale against your therapy pressure.

It also allows you to choose from nine different levels of humidification and even offers Automatic Climate Control for those who opt for the ClimateLineAir AirSense 10 Heated Hose (included as standard with the Bluetooth AirSense 10 AutoSet).

  • Card-to-Cloud Addendum Explaining How Your Machine Differs From the Original AirSense 10 AutoSet

Integrated Humidifier and Optional Heated Tube

Heated humidification is a desirable feature in a CPAP, especially in dry climates like the desert or in the colder seasons. In the fall and winter, the switch to heat can dry out both the air and your mucous membranes. Heated humidification helps to prevent a sore throat, congested nose, dry sinus passages, or even infections. If you’re sensitive to dry or cold air or are prone to coughs and colds, a CPAP humidifier (or a machine with one built-in) will be your best friend.

ResMed took user feedback into consideration when originally designing and improving the AirSense 10 CPAP Machine over its predecessor. To reduce this machine’s weight and bedside footprint, ResMed made the AirSense 10 with a heating plate built right into the machine. All you need to do is attach the small water chamber to the side and you’re good to go.

If you prefer humidification with your CPAP therapy, we can’t recommend the ClimateLineAir Heated Tube enough. Using a heated tube with the humidifier keeps the temperature of the entire air circuit at a steady level. The machine’s Auto Climate Control mode goes a step further by detecting the room’s temperature and then adjusting the level of both the humidification delivered to the mask as well as the temperature of the tube itself.

ResMed knows that every person has different moisture and heating needs depending on factors like climate, cold or allergy symptoms, and personal comfort preference, which is why the AirSense 10 features 9 different levels of humidification. When paired with the optional heated tubing, you’ll be able to consistently dial in the perfect humidification settings for your needs.

Smaller Size CPAP Machine

Measuring approximately 10 x 4.5 x 6 inches with the humidification chamber attached, the AirSense 10 is trimmer and lighter than the ResMed S9. The footprint has been reduced, and the weight is 23% lighter.

While it isn’t nearly as small as a dedicated travel CPAP machine, it’s still perfectly capable of going just about anywhere with you and is much more powerful than the average travel CPAP. Thanks to its unique triangular-prism design and taller humidifier chamber, it packs and travels better than most full-sized CPAP machines and is FAA-approved for all stages of air travel.

“Super Quiet” CPAP Machine

AirSense 10 owners have consistently been impressed and surprised by the noise level of this machine, which runs at a whisper-quiet 26 decibels.

CPAP Tip: If you don’t use the humidifier and find the machine to be a bit noisier than expected, there’s a side cover door available that closes the machine up and removes the sound of air flowing through the empty humidifier chamber.

AutoRamp, Pressure Relief, and SmartStart Features

Beginning CPAP users and light sleepers sometimes have a tough time acclimating to the level of prescribed air pressure needed to keep airways open during sleep. In response, ResMed has built-in advanced comfort features to make it easier for you to fall asleep and stay asleep.

The AutoRamp feature recognizes when you’re asleep and then gradually raises the level of air pressure to the full prescribed amount. Expiratory Pressure Relief (EPR)—now standard on all ResMed machines—makes breathing more comfortable and natural by lowering the pressure for exhalation. Your airway stays open, but you can exhale easier, which not only feels better but also improves your gas exchange by easing your ability to expel CO2.

Are you one who falls asleep as soon as your head hits the pillow? Lucky for you, the AirSense 10 also comes with SmartStart technology, which means as soon as you put your mask on and start breathing, the machine begins therapy. When you remove the mask, the machine shuts itself off.

Improved LCD Display

The AirSense 10 also features a full-color LCD that uses colors to identify the different stages of therapy. As your therapy progresses, a blank circle fills with green until you ramp up to full pressure. The LCD also utilizes an integrated light sensor to adjust the screen brightness based on the light levels of the room to provide a less strenuous viewing experience in low-light conditions.

If you’re new to CPAP therapy, the green and red faces on the AirSense 10 LCD indicate whether or not your mask is fitting properly or if the humidifier is working as it should. There’s even a Mask Fit feature you can run to check your mask and hose for leaks before you begin therapy each night!

Things to Consider Before Buying an AirSense 10

Are there any downsides to the AirSense 10 CPAP Machine with HumidAir? We dove into customer reviews to find possible drawbacks.

The AirSense 10 is compact and light but not exactly travel-sized. Although fairly light at about 3 pounds (just over 5 pounds with the travel bag, power supply, and optional heated humidification tubing), this machine will probably not fit in the palm of your hand.

If you’re looking to travel with your CPAP machine, however, the included travel case makes it easier. Remember, your CPAP doesn’t count as a carry-on, and you’re encouraged to board with it in addition to your designated carry-on bag.

Some customers also found that the attached humidifier consumes a lot of water, meaning you’ll likely have to refill the chamber every night before beginning your therapy. There are also some reports that the humidifier chamber needs to be replaced more often than on other machines they’ve owned.

Lastly, some AirSense 10 owners have noted that while the auto-dimming display works most of the time, the machine lacks the ability to manually adjust screen brightness.

If you think the AirSense 10 will be an ideal at-home machine, then consider checking out a smaller travel machine for on-the-go!

Frequently Asked Questions About the AirSense 10 Card-to-Cloud

Will My Current Mask/Hose Work With The AirSense 10 C2C?

There are three hose types compatible with the AirSense 10 Card-to-Cloud. They are:

So long as you use one of the three compatible hose styles listed above, you will be able to use any mask with this machine.

How Does This Compare to My Current AirSense 10?

The only significant difference with the Card-to-Cloud model is that it does not include a wireless modem. The modem is what gives the standard AirSense 10 the ability to wirelessly transmit therapy data and connect to the MyAir app. Outside of that, this model features all of the same comfort features, replacement parts, and capabilities as the original AirSense 10 Auto.

How Can I Track My Data With AirSense 10 C2C?

The AirSense 10 AutoSet Card-to-Cloud tracks therapy data on the included SD card instead of wirelessly reporting to the MyAir app. In the Sleep Report menu, you’ll be able to access a comprehensive view of your therapy data on an adjustable timeline ranging from the last 24 hours to the previous six months of usage.

All-in-all, the AirSense 10 is a solid option whether you’re just beginning your CPAP therapy or you’re looking to replace an existing machine. 1. I have been using a CPAP machine for several months and have a question about the AHI reading. Does my Dreamstation give an AHI readout before being corrected or after correction. My readout is between .8 and 1.9 and someone told me that I really didn’t need to use the CPAP with ratings less than 5. Please advice
    Paul

    1. Hi Paul, i’m happy to hear about your low AHI, congrats! The data that you are viewing is after correction. If you were not using your CPAP machine, you would more than likely have a lot more episodes than you’re having.

Also, it is correct that if your AHI, is less than 5 it is considered normal, those readings would need to be before correction.

      Have a terrific weekend!

  2. This machine is such a cheap copy of prior products produced by ResMed. Iv’e used their products for years with no problems and then this machine came along. The machine started to leak water within the first month that I had it and no one has been able to figure out why it is leaking and they will not replace it; the reservoir is watertight and is replaced every few months yet the machine still oozes water onto my nightstand. Further, the door that holds the filter fell off the first month that I had the machine and has never stayed in place since; nobody can seem to fix that problem either. This machine is a piece of junk. Don’t buy it

    1. Hey Matt, hmm, leaking coming from the machine itself can be caused by the inlet seal being torn or warped – have you checked there? I’m sorry to hear that your having this problem. Your machine would have come with a warranty and that leaking is something we can address. Did you purchase your machine from CPAP.com? If not please follow up with the company that the machine was purchased from, but if you purchased from CPAP.com, please reach out to us at 1800-356-5221 and ask for Carol – or by emailing us at cpap@cpap.com attention Carol so we can do some troubleshooting with you or set you up for a warranty evaluation.

We hope to hear from you soon, have a great day!

  3. My wife has had a Res Med air sense 10 for approx 7 months. It has started to be very noisy at night. She called customer service and the gentleman told her to use vinegar on a q tip to clean the seals inside the unit. She did this as directed but it still makes even more noise. Is there something else we can try or should we return the unit for a replacement.

    1. Hi Steve, my apologies for the delayed response. I’m sorry about the noise issue with your wife’s machine. Did she purchase the machine from CPAP.com? If so, please give us a call so that we can try to resolve your concerns.

Is the sound on inhale/exhale? If the sound is on exhale, please confirm if the relief setting is enabled and if so, reduce it to see if that helps.

Is the sound coming from the machine, hose, or mask? Pinpointing the source of sound, helps us understand the issue better as it could be a simple fix like replacing the supplies.

Things that can cause noise issues: old filters, filters not being used, higher pressure, pinhole leaks in hose, not having a secure seal w/mask (old cushions), humidifier gaskets, etc.

Please feel free to contact us at: 1-800-356-5221 for over the phone troubleshooting, or you may e-mail further questions to: cpap@cpap.com.

      We wish you the best!

      1. Carol, have you heard a response from Steve, regarding your advice? I am also having noise issues, keeping me up each night, coming from the Resmed 10. It started 1 month ago, after several months of quiet. The sound is amplified, when lying on my side, with my face sideways on the pillow.

        Frustrated,

        Gerry R

  4. My machine uses a lot of water . About 5 to 6 hours is all I get out of 1 fill . I have the Resmed Airsense 10 My humidafer level is 4 .

    1. Hi Joseph, i’m sorry to hear that your machine is using so much water. Usually, one tank of water will last for at least one night. There are multiple factors that could be contributing to the water use. Are you using a heated hose? If so, please decrease the heat setting. What type of mask are you using (full face, nasal, nasal pillow)? If you are a mouth-breather, you should use a full face mask, or use the nasal/nasal pillow in conjunction with a chinstrap.

Also, please check your therapy data for your leak rate. If you have a high leak rate, this could be a reason your machine is using a lot of water. Is your pressure setting high? The higher the pressure setting, the more water the machine will use.

  5. Hi! I have the Resmed AirSense 10 Autoset. The nosle that fits in the mask has holes in it that blows air out. This stream of air blows in the face of my wife and into her neck when she turns around. Why is the stream of air necessary? Will it do anything if I cover the holes? Please let me know. Thank you. Kind regards. Christo Bloemfontein South Africa

    1. Hi Christo,
The air you are referring to is from the exhalation ports on your mask. Please don’t cover the holes as they allow the CO2 to escape and this is very necessary.

For further questions, or concerns, please feel free to reach us at 1-800-356-5221 and we’ll be happy to see if there is a mask available, that fits your needs, with exhalation ports blowing air away from your wife.

      Have a great day!

  6. I’ve been using the ResMed Airsense 10 for over three months. It was newly issued by the VA as a replacement of an older model ResMed CPAP which I had used without issues for over five years.
This machine has consistently caused dry mouth issues even after multiple humidifier and climate adjustments made by myself and my healthcare provider. I have addressed air pressure with my healthcare provider because of a bloated feeling and difficulty maintaining proper breathing rate. I am told that the current settings of 5/15 which are done remotely, are the lowest setting available in this machine. No one is able to tell me why my older ResMed model didn’t produce this pressure problem even as I used it without the humidifier attached. Furthermore they don’t seem to acknowledge that the problem is a pressure issue, claiming I may be opening my mouth. I am using a chin strap with nasal pillows and have not changed sleeping patterns over the last five years. My wife has noticed air noise and machine noise that never occurred with the older model.
I would appreciate any advice you may offer to correct a suspected pressure problem.

    1. Hi William, i’m sorry to hear that you’re having a tough time with your therapy dealing with dry mouth.

With your older ResMed machine, do you know what your pressure setting was? Was your older machine set to a constant pressure?

If so, maybe you should speak with your doctor about going back to the single pressure setting instead of the auto setting of 5-15.

Whereas, the dry mouth concerns you have are most likely, not related to your pressure setting, if your pressure mode changed it could take time to become acclimated with the fluctuating pressure. Not only that, but you mentioned bloating, so pressure change exploration is definitely, worth a try.

I would like to advise 5-15 isn’t the lowest setting your machine can go to, but that may well be the lowest setting your doctor feels you may benefit from. The machine can be set anywhere from 4-20.

You mention you’re using a nasal pillow mask with a chinstrap. Is this the exact same mask you were using with the old machine? If so, have you changed your mask cushion within the last 30 days and your complete mask within the last 6 months? If not please do so.

The airsense 10 is usually a very quiet machine. The noise that your wife is hearing is more than likely due to an air leak coming from either your mask, or hose, which may be contributing to your dry mouth.

There is a simple test you can do to confirm if there is a mask leak. Please turn your machine on, remove your mask from your hose and cover the end with your hand real tight. Do you still hear noise? If not, please change your mask.

If the noise is still present, please turn your machine on, remove your hose from your machine, cover the end that you removed the hose from with your hand real tight. Do you hear noise? If not please change your hose.

If the noise is still present in both cases, please make sure you are using the new hose that came with your machine, please make sure your disposable filter is installed properly, also, please be certain that your water chamber is installed properly.

Are you using any ozone cleaner such as a so clean? If so, we recommend you discontinue the use of this cleaner, as it has been proven that it causes noise and other problems with your machine.

Please continue to follow-up with your doctor regarding the issues you’re having.

For further questions, or concerns, or troubleshooting over the phone, please reach us at: 1-800-356-5221.

      We wish you the best!

Are you using a Climateline hose? This is the only way for you to adjust the temperature of your hose. If you aren’t using a heated hose (climateline), you have an option to add one. Please see the link below.

    1. Hi Cecilia,
I’m sorry you’re having problems with your machine. Your machine usually goes through a cool down period of about 20 minutes, but shouldn’t be an hour.

Have you confirmed that your SmartStart feature is enabled? If not please do so. Also, please keep in mind, per the manufacturer, the SmartStart™ technology may not function as intended when used with a nasal pillow mask and a pressure setting of 7 cm H2O or less. If the feature does not appear to be functioning, this comfort feature can be turned off.

If you need assistance with confirming your settings, please feel free to reach us at: 1-800-356-5221, you can ask to speak with Carol M.

      Best Wishes!

  7. ResMed tells you every few months you get free filters and mask replacements fthen they send your insurance company a bill for the free extras. They lie and try to put fake bills through to your insurance company this is fraud

  8. I have a ResMed AirFit CPAP machine. I am allowed a new headgear every 6 months with my insurance. However, after 5 months, my magnetic clip broke, and I am now unable to use this device. I have repeatedly called Lincare (my local CPAP provider) and was told I would have to wait until the end of November to order a new headgear strap, which would not arrive until the beginning of December. I called Res Med and Lincare on Monday, Nov. 2. I called Lincare on Tuesday, Nov. 3. And I called Lincare this morning, Wednesday, Nov. 4. I had spoken to someone (Karen) at ResMed on Monday and was told to have Lincare call them to resolve this issue. Lincare was supposed to get back to me about what they were going to do for me. I have yet to hear back from them. So, I am left without the ability to use my CPAP machine because of the inaction by Lincare. My sleep has been compromised and I am beyond frustrated.
