Power Failure Alarm with Safety Light
Lindalee B, MD – September 28, 2011
"Great Product. I have finally found something that will alert me that the power is off while I am wearing my CPAP machine when sleeping. This device is something I think my current CPAP supply provider doesn't even know about. I have been consantly calling them asking them if there was a device or machine that would alert me to the fact that the power was out. My current provider said nothing could be done. I don't think they even researched the problem.
I am so happy I finally found something -- and even more happy that the device is relatively inexpensive. I feel much safer now that I will no longer be breathing my own carbon dioxide for hours when the power goes off.
You guys were fabulous. The alarm was delivered ni a timely manner, the web site was easily used for both finding and ordering the device. Thank you !!"

PowerOut with alarm and safety light
J Robert MacIsaac,Antigonish NS – June 30, 2010
"I received the order for 2 of these PowerOut products. They are extremely well packaged and delivered in a very timely fashion. I plugged one in immediately. I have done testing of its features and they all work directly from the box. I look forward not having to keep using my CPAP whenever we loss power. Thanks fo this wonderful pruct that may save my life. I will definetly keep me in a good mood regardless of a loss of power. Thank you"
I didn't know I needed it- until one night
Gary W, Perry, NY – August 29, 2009
"To be totally honest- I guess I never thought of it, until my first power outage. I was awakened about 0430 wondering why I was not getting the air supply I had become used to over the last 13 months.
A friend in another state and I had been comparing notes on our CPAP progress using photos on the CPAP.com website, so I was aware of the forums associated there. I immediately read a posting from a lady in TX and the recommendation she received-- so I ordered two units (splitting the shipping, one for myself and one for a fellow sufferer at church). The units arrived very quickly (Friday-Monday), and seem like they are exactly what I need.
My only complaint is that they don't really sound like they are as loud as the company claims- but upon finding a receptacle in my bedroom, I concluded that should be no problem (I had originally planned to plug it into the hall outlet- but this will probably work better anyway).
The LED lights are bright and having three lights gives additional confidence for the next time I am so rudely awakened.
The design fits my hand well- and should function well as both emergency flashlight and power outage alarm."
First you need to determine if your machine is configured to operate on DC power and has a DC power outlet. If your machine does have a DC power outlet and you want to run your marine battery, then you will need the correct DC cable for your machine and an adapter cable that fits over the cigarette lighter plug and ends in alligator clips.
CPAP.com sells complete battery kits with everything you need for your machine including the right cables for your machine and the battery. You can find the right battery kit for your machine here.
If your machine does not have a DC power outlet, then you will also need an inverter to be able to run your machine on battery power.
If you have questions about the specific power needs of your machine, review the "Power" tab on your machine's product page, or give us a call at 1-800-356-5221.
How do I prepare for power outages with CPAP?
There are a lot of back up battery choices out there that can give you peace of mind in case of a power outage. Some machines offer the option of an integrated battery which will automatically fail over to battery power if the power goes out.
CPAP.com sells battery packs to accompany your machine if an integrated battery is not available. Visit CPAPtalk for more advice specific to your needs, or view this past thread on the topic here.
