If you want a whisper-quiet mask with a minimalist design that's easy to use, you should definitely check out ResMed's AirFit P10 Nasal Pillow Mask! This popular CPAP mask sits snugly under your nose with flexible nasal pillows and a simple elastic head strap, letting you sleep comfortably on your side without bulky equipment getting in your way.ย

I've put the AirFit P10 through rigorous real-world testing for this ResMed AirFit P10 review, evaluating it across multiple sleeping positions and pressure settings. The results? An impressive, high overall score that sits among the top-rated nasal pillow masks available today.

Eric Ott - CPAP Product Specialist

From my AirFit P10 testing notes:

"The P10 may very well be the most comfortable mask we've tested to date. It works incredibly well in any sleeping position and does not make more contact with the face than it needs to."

AirFit P10 at a glance

What makes the AirFit P10 stand out from other masks?

The AirFit P10 is one of the best nasal pillow CPAP masks with a hassle-free design perfect for light sleepers, side sleepers, and those who experience CPAP claustrophobia. But the real magic is in its simplicity.

While many masks feature multiple velcro straps, uncomfortable forehead pads, and bulky frames, the P10 offers:

Score: 84.9/100 | Seal Quality: 9.88/10 | Comfort: 10/10 | Value: 10/10

  • Ultra-Light Designโ€”50% lighter than most masks to help you forget itโ€™s there
  • Quiet Operationโ€”Great for light sleepers, just 21 decibels, similar to a whisper
  • Dual-Wall Pillow Designโ€”Pillows remain sealed even at high pressures
  • Reliable Comfortโ€”Adaptive pillows stay in place without rubbing
  • Side Sleeper-Friendlyโ€”Slim, low-profile design eliminates pressure points
Eric Ott - CPAP Product Specialist

From my AirFit P10 testing notes:

"The P10 is a great fit for any sleeping position, does well with active sleepers, and I would absolutely recommend it for pressures up to 15 cm Hโ‚‚O."

Is the AirFit P10 right for you?

The AirFit P10 is a great mask for...

โœ“ Back sleepers

โœ“ Side sleepers

โœ“ Light sleepersย

โœ“ Minimal facial contact

โœ“ Reading/watching TV before bed

โœ“ Glasses

โœ“ CPAP claustrophobia

โœ“ Medical implants

โœ“ Facial hair

You should try another CPAP mask if you...

โœ— Require 15+ cmHโ‚‚O of pressure

โœ— Are a very active sleeper

โœ— Mostly sleep on your stomach

โœ— Have sensitive sinuses

โœ— Struggle with arthritis

โœ— Have limited hand dexterity

The P10 works for most sleeping positions

I tested this mask in a variety of sleeping positions and at different pressure settings. Overall, I was very impressed with the results.ย

The P10 works for:

  • Back sleeping
  • Side sleeping
  • Occasional belly sleeping
  • Limited tossing and turning

Keep in mind that nasal pillow masks are typically not suggested for people requiring high-pressure CPAP therapy (above 15 cmHโ‚‚O). The P10 has an excellent seal within the most commonly used pressures, 7-11 cmHโ‚‚O.

From my AirFit P10 testing notes:

"The P10 is quite easy to sleep with on your stomach. It's very small and easy to hang off the edge of the pillow, though it can tend to push up and put pressure on the nose. Still, the pillows have enough play and bounce that this is a much more comfortable stomach sleeping experience than most masks."ย

AirFit P10 makes minimal noise if using it under 15 cmHโ‚‚O

A lot of masks claim to be quiet but my sound testing confirms that the AirFit P10 truly is one of the quietest on the marketโ€”just 21 decibels (similar to a whisper or lightly rustly leaves).

This is made possible by the mesh-like QuietAir diffuser vents, which muffle the sound of airflow and prevent exhaled air from blowing out toward you or your partner.

Pressure Setting Noise Rating Testing Notes
5 cm H2O Great "Noise is great, can't hear any air escaping from the QuietAir mesh vents and most noise comes from hearing exhaled air echo in the pillows and mask frame."
10 cm H2O Great "At 10 cmHโ‚‚O, the P10 is still very quiet and the whistling sound on exhale seems to have disappeared."
15 cm H2O Good "Still very quiet at 15 cmHโ‚‚O though there is a noticeable difference from 10 cmHโ‚‚O."
20 cm H2O Acceptable "Things are getting a bit noisy and I can tell the P10 is at the limit of its abilities at 20 cmHโ‚‚O."

My full review of the AirFit P10

To test the AirFit P10, my team and I created a 100 point rubric that examined 10 different categories ranging from seal, comfort, cost, fit, user-friendliness, and more.ย

Overall this mask received a total score of 84.9/100. If you're looking for a simple mask with minimal pressure points and a strong seal, the P10 is a great option.

The AirFit P10 excelled (9/10 or higher) in the following areas:ย

  • Seal quality
  • Comfort
  • Cost of ownership
  • Open design

Seal quality (9.88/10)

The P10 performed well at all pressures, with only minor issues at 20 cmHโ‚‚O. However, nasal pillow masks are not usually recommend for high pressures anyways.

The dual-wall nasal pillows feature a โ€œtrampoline effect,โ€ which flex and rebound to keep a secure seal, even as you move. This design allows for comfortable side sleeping without breaking the seal.

Up close shot of the AirFit P10 nasal pillows

Comfort (10/10)

This nasal pillow mask may be the most comfortable mask I've tested to date. It works incredibly well in any sleeping position and does not make more contact with the face than it needs to.

The pillows are soft and great for side sleeping. Their flexibility allows you to press your face into your pillow while maintaining seal integrity, which is particularly valuable for side sleepers.

Cost of ownership (10/10)

The AirFit P10 is a relatively inexpensive mask up front and doesn't require excessive maintenance or a demanding replacement schedule. While the official recommendation is to replace your nasal pillows every two weeks, you can easily get 1-3 months or more out of each set if you keep a regular cleaning schedule.

Total costs of ownership for the first year of the airfit p10 is between $195-$355, depending on whether you replace your nasal pillow cushions every 1 to 3 months

User friendliness (7/10)

While the AirFit P10 is generally user-friendly, it can be difficult to use if you have arthritis or struggle with fine motor skills. Reattaching the headgear after cleaning and maintenance can be tricky and removing the nasal pillows requires at least a bit of force.ย

Making adjustments to the mask fit usually requires you to use both hands. This is because the fit tab is located on one side of the headgear. When you make adjustments, it causes the mask to shift, requiring you to readjust the nasal pillows after tightening.

Openness (10/10)

The P10 is about as open as a CPAP mask can be, and is very easy to use with glasses. Its minimal design creates virtually no claustrophobic feeling, which is ideal for users who struggle with more enclosing mask styles.

Security (7.5/10)

The mask can handle some tossing and turning during sleep, but the one-size-fits-most headgear is not as secure as other masks, especially if your head is very small or very large.ย

The nasal pillows do a good job staying in place. However, the P10 headgear is made up of a single elastic strap that splits into two upper and lower straps across the back of the head. While this creates some stability, itโ€™s not enough to totally prevent the headgear from slipping.ย

Maintenance (8/10)

The P10 uses a simple design with just three parts. For the most part, this makes the mask easy to clean and maintain. Daily upkeep can be done with a CPAP wipe, but weekly cleaning takes a bit more effort.ย

To thoroughly clean the inside of the dual wall pillows, youโ€™ll need to rinse the cushion in warm running water. I also suggest lightly brushing the mesh QuietAir vents with a soft toothbrush. The AirFit P10 features the following pieces:

Adjustability (6.5/10)

One downside of having a very simple mask is that you lose a lot of adjustability that you get with other designs. The P10 has two limited points of adjustment, which are not as easy to adjust as I would like.

These adjustments also tend to change the fit and pressure of the nasal pillows, causing them to put pressure inside your nose. However, the discomfort can usually be addressed by repositioning the cushion.

The P10 headgear adjusts in the following ways:ย

  • Elastic head strap with a pull-to-fit tab
  • Split strap at the back of the head for stability
Pull-tight fit tab on the airfit P10 head strap

Fitting (7.5/10)

Once you understand how the P10 wants to be worn, it can be pretty simple to get it into place. However, it lacks fine-tuned adjustments and relies on one-size-fits-most headgear that may not work for everyone.

Sizing (8.5/10)

The AirFit P10 is offered as a fit pack, meaning it comes with a one-size-fits-most head strap and three cushion sizes (S, M, L), plus a sizing guide from ResMed. It's important to try each cushion size so you can find your perfect fit.

The mask is also available as a P10 For Her, which includes one-size headgear and three cushions ranging from extra small to medium (XS, S, M).

What to consider before buying the P10

While this mask performs well in most categories, I did note a few practical limitations during extended testing:

Not ideal if you struggle with fine motor skills

The P10 may not be the best choice for those with arthritis or fine motor control limitations. It can be tricky to disassemble and reassemble. The design for the headgear and small clips on the cushion requires more dexterity than some other masks.

You''ll need to disconnect tubing for nighttime trips

This mask doesn't have a dedicated quick-disconnect feature. So, for nighttime bathroom trips I found it's better to disconnect at the tubing from the AirFit P10 short tube, rather than removing the entire mask.

Long hair tends to get caught in the head strap

It can also be difficult to wear if you have long hair. The fit tab is likely to pull some hair with it during adjustments and itโ€™s easy for long hair to get tangled in the split-tail strap.

Facial hair may cause irritation if it gets caught between the mask and your nose

The pillows themselves might cause irritation with mustaches if stray hairs end up in the nostril with the pillows.

Frequently asked questions

Is the AirFit P10 good for side sleepers?

Yes, excellent. My testing gave it a perfect 10/10 score for side sleeping at pressures up to 15 cmHโ‚‚O. The low-profile design and flexible nasal pillows maintain seal integrity even when pressed against a pillow.

How do I clean the AirFit P10?

Daily: Disconnect CPAP hose from the short tube. Hang short tube so it can drip dry, separate from your CPAP hose. Wipe the AirFit P10 nasal pillows with a CPAP wipe or rinse in warm water.ย

Weekly:ย Disassemble the three components (frame with tube, headgear, nasal pillows) and wash with mild soap and warm water. Be sure to gently clean the mesh vents at the front of the frame using a soft-bristled toothbrush or CPAP cleaning brush. For deeper cleaning, soak in diluted vinegar. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely before reassembling.

Can I use the AirFit P10 with a beard?

Yes. The nasal pillow design works well with facial hair since the seal is created inside the nostrils rather than against facial skin where beards can interfere.

Is the AirFit P10 compatible with all CPAP machines?

Yes, it works with all standard CPAP, APAP, and BiPAP machines that use the standard 22mm hose connection. However, if youโ€™re looking to pair the P10 with ResMedโ€™s AirMini travel machine, youโ€™ll need the P10 for AirMini mask, which features a modified design thatโ€™s different than the standard version.

My final verdict: Is the AirFit P10 worth is?

After exhaustive testing across all sleeping positions and pressure levels, the ResMed AirFit P10 earns my strong recommendation for most people seeking a lightweight, comfortable nasal pillow solution.

With perfect scores in comfort (10/10), excellent seal quality (9.88/10), and outstanding value (10/10), the P10 addresses the most critical aspects of CPAP therapy without unnecessary complexity.
