Ultimately, mask cushions and nasal pillows are designed to do the same thing. They both click into the mask frame to create a comfortable, leak-free seal between your face and CPAP mask. The difference lies in how they are shaped and whether they sealaround the mouth and/or nose, or if they seal inside the nostrils.

• Oral Cushion: A soft insert that clicks into the frame of an oral mask, creating a seal around the mouth only.
• Full Face Cushion: A soft insert that clicks into the frame of a full face mask, creating a seal around the mouth and nose.
• Nasal Cushion: A soft insert that clicks into the frame of a nasal mask, creating a seal around the entire nose or just around the nostrils.
• Nasal Pillows: A soft insert that clicks into the frame of a nasal pillow mask. Nasal pillows feature two small cone-shaped inserts (called "pillows") that create a secure seal just inside each nostril.

If you tend to sleep with your mouth open, a full face CPAP mask may be a better option. However, if you prefer the freedom and flexibility of a nasal mask, you can use a CPAP chin strap to support your jaw and prevent air from leaking out of your mouth.
