Transcend Bedside Waterless Humid Kit

The Transcend Bedside Kit for Waterless Humidification allows the Transcend Travel CPAP Machines to use heat moisture exchange (HME) technology to deliver humidified air without the hassle of a water chamber. HME technology is clinically proven, and has been used in hospitals for over 50 years.

The Transcend Bedside Kit for Waterless Humidification is compatible with the:

  • Transcend Travel CPAP Machine
  • Transcend EZEX Travel CPAP Machine
  • Transcend Auto Travel CPAP Machine with EZEX

Please Note: This product is not compatible with the following machines:

  • Transcend 365
  • Transcend 3

The Transcend Bedside Kit for Waterless Humidification comes with:

  • Transcend 6 ft pressure line delivery hose
  • Transcend headgear
  • Forehead pad assembly
  • Mask shell assembly
  • Mask adapter ring
  • 4 HMEs

The Transcend 6 ft pressure line delivery hose is attached to the Transcend II CPAP machine. The Mask assembly with adapter ring, headgear, and forehead pad assembly are combined and attached to the hose. The HME is placed in the mask shell assembly where the the hose connects.

This kit is adaptable to a small range of popular nasal masks, listed below. To use this kit with the Transcend Travel CPAP machine, all you will need is a compatible mask cushion. Tailor your set up by clipping the cushion to the included adapter ring and attach to Transcend's mask assembly. The manufacturer of the Transcend is working to expand the list of compatible masks, currently it is available for use with:

  • ResMed Ultra Mirage™ II Nasal CPAP Mask
  • ResMed Mirage SoftGel™ Nasal CPAP Mask
  • ResMed Mirage Activa LT™ Nasal CPAP Mask
  • ResMed Mirage Activa™ Nasal CPAP Mask
  • Philips Respironics ComfortGel™ Original Nasal CPAP Mask
  • Philips Respironics ComfortGel™ Blue Nasal CPAP Mask

The HME should be changed each time you feel that you are not receiving adequate humidification. This averages about once per week. Keep the replacement HME sealed in its packaging until ready for use. It will immediately start to collect moisture once exposed to the air.

I have used the Transcend unit for years and love it but the waterless humidification is just barely above not using any humidification for me. I still use it because I need some humidification and I use it on overseas air flights but if I can find a more portable humidifier than my home unit, I was stop using this mask altogether. I'm not sure what happened but the humidity filters just don't seem to be working anymore.

I bought this unit to use in travel situations- to avoid needing distilled water & to keep the total CPAP unit as compact & light as possible. It fulfills those needs. The humidication seems to work well. The Humidifier is built into the mask & the tubing runs vertically & over ones head, making it cumbersome. If going to the bathroom, you need to disconnect at the CPAP - equally cumbersome, but livable. It is not a unit that I would use on a regular basis, but works well for my purposes. When you order, you will to order a cushion mask separately, along with an adapter - make sure they are compatible.

I would order it again, but...

It works, and I need some kind of humidification for my Transcend II (I never leave home without it.) But, like the Cpap itself, it seems that Somnetics doesn't understand that elderly people don't see well in the dark (some of us have trouble seeing it in the light). It is poorly designed for those who will have trouble taking it off and putting it on again in the middle of the night when they (invariably) get up to go to the bathroom. It is cumbersome. The headpiece has too many straps that can get twisted and snarled on numeous velcro flaps. The mask and adapters along with a airtube loop weigh it down. I have tried just disconnecting it from the Cpap, but dragging the six foot hose behind and gasping for air on the way to the bathroom isn't fun either. I use this for travel because its the lightest and most convenient portable system I know of, but I never use it at home. My advice for those who are having similar problems: practice taking it on and off repititiously with your eyes closed, and keep a small pen-flashlight with you as well.
