Backed by dozens of peer-reviewed studies, the myTAP oral appliance is one of the most popular and effective alternative treatments for mild to moderate Obstructive Sleep Apnea. This customizable mouthpiece works by slowly repositioning your lower jaw to prevent airway blockages during sleep and eliminating sleep apnea side effects like snoring, gasping, and poor sleep.

Features

More

Precision-Fit Trays

myTAP includes two mouthpiece trays, one for you upper teeth and another for your lower teeth. These trays are made of thermoplastic, which softens when heated so you can mold them to your exact size and shape of your upper and lower jaw. These trays can be customized and ready to use in as little as 15 minutes, plus they can be remolded as needed.

Adjustment Mechanism

myTAP trays are connected by an adjustment mechanism that protrudes just past the outside of your mouth. This piece plays a key role in repositioning your lower jaw to prevent airway obstructions. Every few days you will readjust this mechanism, which overtime slightly pushes your lower jaw forward.

Mouth Shield

Your myTAP comes with a plastic shield to minimize dryness, ensure your comfort, and encourage nasal breathing. This shield is designed to slip over the adjustment mechanism, sitting right against the outer edge of the mouthpiece.

AM Aligner

myTAP is designed to temporarily reposition your jaw only during sleep. To prevent permanent changes to your jaw, myTAP comes with an AM Aligner. This is a second mouthpiece, which must be molded to the original size and shape of your mouth BEFORE using your myTAP device. The AM Aligner must be worn each morning to reverse any jaw changes that may have occurred while you were sleeping with the myTAP device.

Vertical Shims

If you need additional space for your tongue, myTAP offers vertical shims, which are sold separately. The purpose of this piece is to widen the space between the upper and lower trays to create more room for your tongue without adding pressure to your jaws. These accessories are available in three sizes, depending on how much space you need: 6 mm, 9 mm, and 12 mm.

How It Works

More

1. Fit Your Mouthpiece

Once you’ve received your myTAP device, it’s time to customize the upper and lower trays. Soften the upper tray by submerging it in boiling water for 1 minute, then position it against your upper teeth and bite down for 4 minutes. Repeat this process for the lower tray. Allow each tray to harden for 5 minutes before assembling the myTAP device.

2. Get Comfortable

It can take some time to get used to myTAP, so the first few nights you will be sleeping with the device without making any adjustments to your jaw position. Be sure to keep the mouthpiece in a comfortable, neutral position. Your jaw should not feel any tension or pain.

3. Adjust the Device

Once you are able to comfortably wear your myTAP to bed, it's time to start slowly adjusting the position of your lower jaw while you sleep. Every two nights you will turn the adjustment dial 180 degrees counterclockwise, which will gently shift your lower jaw forward. It can take a few weeks for your lower jaw to finally reach the correct position.

4. Enjoy Revitalized Sleep

Once your lower jaw has reached its ideal position, you will begin to notice improvement in your sleep apnea symptoms, including less snoring, fewer gasping episodes, better sleep quality, and more energy. Once you start to see these changes, it's time to follow up with your healthcare provider to confirm that you are responding to treatment.
