Years ago I went through 6 masks in my search.
Finding one that didn't leak with high pressures, whose straps didn't give me headaches, that didn't leave my cheeks raw took quite a while. During this adventure the RESMED P10 Airfit was a favorite that I wanted for my forever mask. It was not to be. In the end my high pressures, loose lips, and "active sleeper" characteristics meant I could never get large leaks fully controlled.
The Fisher & Paikel ORACLE 456 Oral mask has been my constant cpap companion for many years. It conquered Large Leaks and my Apneas per Hour have remained below 1.0 (one apnea per hour) for years.
Compromises had to be made! The Oracle 456 requires a mouthpiece that fits between the teeth which aggravates my tense jaw and TMJ soreness. The enforced mouth breathing and consequent lowered humidity has caused a variety of throat and mouth aggravations ranging from dry mouth, infections, to increased dental cavities.
Although I have tried new, likely candidates over the years they have all failed until now: the NOVA MICRO NASAL PILLOW mask is a viable alternative for me! Its adjustable strap allows fine adjustment of mask tension, and, the deeper insertion of the nose pillows into the nasal cavity provides more secure positioning of the mask during my "active sleeping" excursions.
