Take your therapy off the grid! The Freedom Travel Battery Pack for CPAP Machines from BPS is a lightweight, portable battery kit which includes components to power many popular CPAP models. The battery weighs in at 1.7 pounds and provides ease of mind with a digital display to show remaining charge.

    Product Features

The Freedom Travel CPAP Battery Pack from Battery Power Solutions (BPS) is a lithium ion battery built upon the success of the C-100 Travel Battery. The Freedom battery is sleek in design and offers functional features such as a built-in USB port and a digital display.

    Features

    • Portable & Sleek Design
    • Digital Display with Charge Level
    • Compatible with Popular CPAPs
    • Battery Backup Option
    • Built-In 5V USB Port
    • Double Battery Option

Portable & Sleek Design with Digital Display

The Freedom CPAP Battery features a modern white design and is sized to be carried on flights, camping trips, and other situations which may not provide AC power. The battery weighs 1.7 lbs and measures approximately 7.5 in L x 4.8 in W x 0.8 H. The battery meets FAA requirements for carry-on luggage, however please check with specific airlines for more information on in-flight use. The front of the battery features a digital display with an easy to read charge level to aid in charging and detailing the time remaining.

    Compatible with Popular CPAPs

The Freedom CPAP battery can power most CPAP machines either with the included components or with components that can be purchased separately.

The Freedom battery also includes the DC Input Cord allowing previously purchased DC cables to be used with the battery.

    Battery Backup Option

The Freedom CPAP Battery has both an input and output port on the front of the battery, enabling it to be used as a battery backup when a power outage is imminent. The battery is capable of recognizing when AC power is present, and if so will direct the AC power to the device, without cycling the battery. Should AC power fail, the battery will kick in to provide power to the device.

To set up, plug the included AC battery charger into the "DC In" port of the battery to provide power to the battery, and then plug the appropriate connection into the "DC Out" port of the battery and into the CPAP machine.

    Built-In 5V USB Port

Also included on the front of the Freedom battery is a USB port that can power additional devices. Electronics powered by USB can be plugged in to charge or be used while a CPAP or other device is being used via the "DC Out" port using the proper connector tip or accessory. Please note that powering two devices will decrease the run time of the battery. To use the USB port, plug the device into the USB port, and press the charge level indicator button next to the display to activate the USB port. When use of the USB port is complete, unplug the USB cable from the battery.

    Double Battery Option

Using the included power pigtail cord, a second Freedom Battery Cell can be purchased and attached to double the run time. Having a second battery can prove very useful if in situations where a single battery would not provide a full night of power, such as having to use an inverter, or heated humidifier, both of which reduce normal run time in half.

    Solar Panel Compatibility Tips

The Freedom Battery is now compatible with the BPS solar charger. Use the charge controller, which is included with the BPS SunPower Solar Panel 40W, to charge the battery from the solar charger.

    Battery Run Time Tips

As with use of any CPAP battery, run times can be greatly affected by several factors:

    • Pressure Setting: Higher pressure settings will require much more power than a lower pressure setting.
    • Altitude: Higher altitudes require a CPAP machine to work harder to provide a set pressure and may require more power.
    • Humidification: Use of a heated humidifier will reduce the run time of the battery by half or more. If possible, turn the heat setting completely off, or remove the heated humidifier.
    • Inverters: Similar to heated humidifiers, inverters will reduce the run time of the battery by half. If the device has a DC option, greater run time will be achieved using a compatible DC cord rather than an inverter.
    • Battery Age: Rechargeable lithium-ion batteries will gradually decrease their max charge held as they age. The lifespan of the Freedom battery under normal conditions is 400 to 500 charging cycles.

    Charging Instructions

    1. Connect the AC power cord to the charger.
    2. Plug the charger's output cable into the "DC In" port of the Freedom Battery.
    3. Connect the charger to a wall outlet.
    4. When fully charged, the battery will show "100%" on the display.
    5. Once fully charged, disconnect the charger from the battery and wall outlet.

    Charging Tips

    • First Time Charging: When charging the Freedom Battery Pack for the first time, charge the battery completely to 100%. The power supply may become slightly warm to the touch during charging, which is normal.
    • Charging from a DC Source: Using the optional DC to DC Cable for C-100 & Freedom Travel Battery Packs, the battery can be charged directly from another DC source using a cigarette style 12V outlet. If doing so in a vehicle, it must be running. Another option for charging from DC power is to add the 150W Modified Sine Wave Inverter to convert the DC power to AC to use the standard charger.
    • International Charging: The battery can be charged internationally, as the charger can be used with AC currents from 100V to 240V. Plug adapters such as the World Traveler Power Adapter Plugs will be needed to convert the outlet.
    • Dual Battery Charging: Using the included power pigtail cord, two batteries can be charged at once using the battery charger. Simply plug the single end of the pigtail cord into the charger, and then the split end into the "DC In" port of both batteries.

    Display Tips

To turn on the battery display to view the current charge level, press the round button next to display. The display may take a second to light up.

    USB Port Tips

To activate power to the USB port of the battery, first plug the device into the USB port, then press the charge level indicator button next to the screen. Pressing this button will activate the USB port and begin powering or charging the device. When done, unplug the USB cord from the battery so that the battery will turn off.

    Storage Tips

Before storing, fully charge the battery. The battery will self-discharge approximately 20% every 30 days. If storing for an extended period, charge once every 90 days to at least 50% capacity.

    Choosing the Proper Connector Tip

Machine compatibility is detailed on the Features tab of this product page. The manufacturer offers the following information for connector tip selection:

    1. Choose the connector tip that most closely matches in size visually to the DC connection of the device.
    2. Attempt inserting the connector tip into the DC connection. If the correct connector tip is used, it should fit easily and not have to be forced.
    3. Once the connector tip with the most secure fitting is found, connect it to the female end of the DC power pigtail cord. If the connector tip is loose, try others that may have a more secure fit.

8 Amps Maximum Power Demand: The Freedom Battery can provide power for devices which require up to 8 amps. As a reference, most CPAP machines operate between 0.5 and 4.5 amps.

    Preventing Overdraw

When the Freedom battery is being used in a situation that combines many factors to reduce run time, it's possible that more power may be drawn than the battery can provide, causing power to cease. If this is encountered, try removing accessories such as a heated humidifier to reduce the power draw on the battery.

    Older Machine Compatibility Tips

The Freedom Battery is not recommended for use with machines produced earlier than those listed below. Machines older than these can have very short run times with the battery due to the internal components of the machine working harder due to age:

    • ResMed machines OLDER than the S8 Series
    • Philips Respironics Machines OLDER than the M Series
    • Fisher & Paykel Machines OLDER than the ICON Series
    • Devilbiss Machines OLDER than the IntelliPAP Series

    WARNINGS

    • Because the cell contents are corrosive, do not abuse the battery in ways that could result in them being exposed. This includes dropping, striking, or crushing the battery.
    • The battery should not come in contact with moisture of any kind.
    • Discontinue use of any component, including connectors, cables, or the battery itself that appear to have signs of damage.
    • Use the included charger only.
    • The battery should not be exposed to extreme heat or fire. Explosion may occur.
    • Do not disassemble or incinerate the battery.
    • Use of the Freedom Battery Pack with devices that require higher wattage may result in the battery shutting off to protect from overrun.
    • Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight and away from metal objects and heat.
