When I found out that AEIOMed was no longer going to be available, I panicked. I have tried many, many different masks and this is the one for me. I like that nothing touches the face except the nose pillows. The exhaust is above my head and is not noisy like many other masks. I ordered 4 nose pieces since once they are gone, they're gone. I don't know what I'll do when they're ready for replacement. They are pricey for what you get, however.
Having tried a number of different masks, I have found the AEIO Headrest to be the one for me. The Nasal Seal is comfortable and seals easily. There does seem to be excess rainout when using the humidifier but I just turn it to 0 when that happens. The headband needs some more attention as it tends to slide up in the night. I'm not sure how to fix that but it needs a better fit. But, I like having no straps across the face and the exhaust does not bother my wife.
I have used the Headrest Nasal Pillow CPAP Mask for years and will never use any other mask. The manufacturer modified the nasal seals with a reinforcing insert that has greatly stabilized the seal and effectively prevents leaks without the previous need to bend the reinforcing wires until a seal was accomplished.
The Headrest mask is one of two which I find comfortable -- the other is the Comfortlite 2. Headrest is light, doesn't trap me in a maze of straps. It's easy to to put on and take off. The nasal pillows are soft and comfortable -- I have awakened and wondered where my mask was, only to realize I was wearing it and breathing through it. The pillows rinse clean with hot water, and dry easily during the day. I would not trade this mask and its pillows for a dozen of other manufacturers.
Love my headrest and this is much better than having to buy a whole new headrest.
The nasal seals leak around the nose
I use a "deconstructed" headrest (see cpaptalk.com for info) and am very happy with the comfort and fit. I wish the replacement seal was less expensive, but in fairness this appears to be a specialty item from a small manufacturer. You get what you pay for...
After reading up at cpaptalk.com, I decided to follow others who had purchased this mask and modified it. What's nice about the mask is that it's soft. I was using the Nasal Breeze headgear system which was digging into the back of my skull. I attached the new mask to my old hose directly with a little first aid tape to secure the seals. Then I used a sleep mask over the tubing to hold it in place. This worked just as well as my old mask in terms of leakage (some, but not much) and was a thousand times more comfortable.
Years ago I purchased the original version of this nasal seal, and thought it was terrific. Yet, it had seen better days, and it was time for a new one. I knew that there had been some changes to the seal, and was skittish about buying the new version, especially after reading of the experiences of some other posters. I've slept with the new one for two nights now, and have no complaints. The new one is slightly different than the old one, but clearly is pretty much the same. The seals themselves are shaped a bit differently, seem to go in to the nostrils deeper than the original, but after some adjustments with the wires, are still quite comfortable for me. Oh, and if it helps anyone, the same size as I had with the original fits me just fine.
The Headrest comes with M and L nasal seals. I was using the L. Once I cut off the rest of the mask (keeping only the very essentials of the mask), I found that I needed one size larger than before. This may be due to my removal of the stabilizing elements of the mask, but that is also the greatest benefit. It lightens and frees the wearer, increasing comfort. Now, if we only had peel and stick masks, we might have something! Until then, paring down the headgear is the best part of this mask. I only wish that 3 sizes of nasal seal were included with the mask; or, that the buyer could choose which 2 sizes were included. The Headrest (aka Aura or Twilight NP) is a mask so good that it has lasted through several manufacturers (hence the 3 names). Mask choice and effectiveness will, of cours, depend on individual anatomy and preferences. Once a Headrest (Aura, or Twilight NP) user, we seem to stick with it and find that nothing else will do. I only wish that the additional purchase of a nasal seal was not required for those of us who need an XL. Are there none of us who also need a Small? The same would apply to the smaller size.
I must disagree with Jonathon R's review, which says the nasal pillow piece has been cheapened since AEIOmed took over InvaCare. The AEIOmed part I just received is the same as my original one from InvaCare, and works just fine. The $45 price is steep, but not out of line with other CPAP parts, and medical device prices generally. They're all overpriced!
I paid $45.00 for one replacement nasel pillow for the Twilight. I'd recommend for an extra $55.00 to replace the entire unit. Even if the your existing mask is in good shape, having spare parts might come in handy. The part is fine , just it seems a little costly for the replacement parts.
