The backlight for this machine either shuts off automatically after a short intreval or can be set to off.
The machine display is lit for ease of reading.
These machines were designed with a woman's lifestyle in mind.
Timed (T) or Spontaneous Timed (ST) modes provide a customizable backup rate that forces the machine to switch from exhalation to inhalation. In ST Mode, the machine monitors the breathing cycle and switches from EPAP to IPAP once the backup time is met or whenever the break is detected through the sensors; whichever occurs first. The time aspect is only meant to act as a backup respiratory rate to the (S) function (see Spontaneous). This is used for patients with central sleep apnea, or those who need non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
Spontaneous (S) mode tells the machine to start blowing at IPAP pressure with no specific interval set. The machine must wait and detect a break in the breathing cycle before reacting, switching from exhalation to inhalation. If a backup rate is needed, then the unit will need a time interval setting and will be marked 'Yes' on the Timed property.
This feature detects excessive mask leaks due to poor cushion seal or when a user stops therapy by removing a mask when in use. The alert can be in the form of an audible alarm (ALARM) or a text message on the unit's LCD display (LCD).
This feature turns the machines off and on when putting on or taking off the mask. When you put your mask on the machines senses you breathing and turns itself on. Take off the mask and the machine turns off.
Altitude Adjustment is defined as the machine's ability to compensate for changes in altitude. Compensation can either occur manually or automatically. Manual adjustments occur within the Setup Menu and must be set by the user. Automatic requires no user intervention.
Software is an option on some CPAP machines. The software can give details on compliance and performance. The patient or physician downloads the data from the CPAP machine to determine how long a patient has used their machine each night and how well the machine is working to stop Apnea/Hypopnea events. This property shows the software package to use for machine that has the ability to transfer data to your computer and report Hours of Usage. See Advanced Software for a list of machines that can report AHI or Leakage.
This property marks the machines that have the ability to record performance data on a removable card. Some machines that are flagged as having software (seeOptional Software), do not have removable memory cards, rather instead, records information on-board and must use a download cable to retrieve the data from the machine.
Identifies which machines are data capable and have the ability to track your therapy progress over time. The machine captures key metrics like AHI (Apnea/Hypopnea Index), Leakage, and most pressure used. Depending on the machine, the data can be retrieved through an on Machine Screen Display (MSD), through Optional Software (OS), and/or through SmartCode (SC).
An integrated battery pack attaches to and functions seamlessly with the machine it is integrated with. It allows your CPAP to run on AC and fail over to the DC battery only if necessary.
A 'Yes' answer indicates that the CPAP Machine has an optional DC cable that plugs directly into a DC port. This allows you to use a DC power source, such as a battery or car cigarette lighter outlet. Some optional DC cables include alligator clips to connect directly to battery terminals. See the "Power" tab of the machine's product page for more detailed information on how the machine works with alternate power sources, and what optional cables and batteries are compatible.
Domestic Voltage is the voltage that is used with a standard wall outlet in the United States and ranges from 100-120 volts. International Voltage can range from 220v-240v AC.
Indicates which machines have a DC port in which you can use to connect a battery pack or a deep cycle marine battery with an optional DC cable. This is different from an integrated battery that works only with the machine it was designed for. (i.e. Everest CPAP Machine) see property Integrated Battery
This is the maximum altitude at which the machine will properly operate.
Leak Compensation is a machine feature that identifies mask leaks and adjusts to maintain the delivered pressure as set. If marked N/A assume the information is not available due to being out of production or unavailable.
This property defines whether the machine is capable of continuously blowing a constant pressure. All CPAP machines are defined as 'continuous', but some BiPAP's and APAP's also come with a CPAP mode; some BiPAP and BiLevel machines Do NOT. By setting the IPAP and EPAP to the same pressure, a CPAP Mode is achieved, preventing the EPAP pressure from dropping.
The Ramp feature allows the user to start treatment at a lower pressure to fall asleep with, gradually raising the pressure over a set time. This is a comfort setting and can set from 0 to 45 minutes on most CPAP machines.
Pressure Relief is a feature that lowers your therapy pressure to help with difficulties breathing against the machine's airflow, providing a more comfortable and natural breathing pattern. Assistance can occur on the Exhalation, on the Inhalation, and on both exhalation and inhalation at the same time.
This Property lists the operating range for the Exhalation Positive Airway Pressure (EPAP). This is the pressure setting used when you exhale. EPAP is always lower than the IPAP (inhalation) pressure, making breathing out easier and more comfortable.
A CPAP (Constant Positive Air Pressure) delivers continuous airflow at a prescribed pressure at 4cm to 30cm. APAP operates between a range and BiPAP machines are a mix of ranges and constant pressures. This pressure is measured in centimeters of water pressure (H2O) and 4-20cm is average pressure range on most CPAP machines.
This property defines whether the machine automatically adjusts pressure to meet the needs of the CPAP user on a breath-by-breath basis. All APAP machines are defined as 'Auto Adjusting', but some BiPAP's also use an Auto feature on both the IPAP and EPAP. If not marked, Yes, assume the machine does not have AUTO capabilities.
This is the maximum water capacity held by the chamber of the compatible humidifier.
This indicates that the machine has an integrated heated hose option to enhance humidification and reduce rainout. An integrated headed hose receives power directly from the machine and does not require a power supply. The tube's heat settings are set through the machine menu screen.
A yes in this field indicates the machine and humidifier have technology to reduce rainout, the water that collects in a hose when using a heated humidifier. Sensors measure the air temperature in the room and adjust the amount of heat and moisture delivered to the mask to reduce or omit rainout.
This property identifies how the machine incorporates a Heated Humidifier. Build In humidifiers are built into the CPAP machine and cannot be separated from the machine. Integrated humidifiers connect directly to the CPAP machine and they can only be used with compatible CPAP machines. With Integrated humidifiers, the CPAP machine, can be separated and used without the humidifier. CPAP machines that do not have a built in humidifier and do not have an integrated humidifier option have to use a Stand Alone humidifier as the machine's heated humidifier option. Stand Alone humidifiers can be used with any machine and connect to the CPAP machine with an additional hose.
Identifies which CPAP has a humidifier that is built into the CPAP. Built-In humidifiers cannot be separated from the CPAP machine.
This indicates which heated humidifier works best with the listed CPAP machine. In some instances, Built-in is used to describe a machine/humidifier combination system. The Fisher and Paykel HC150 was used for machines that do not have an integrated or built in humidifier system.
Measures the overall dimension of the machine only. Machines with a built-in humidifier are marked NA and must refer to Entire Size dimensions.
This is the size of the CPAP with Heated Humidifier in its travel bag.
This is the combined dimensions of the CPAP with the Heated humidifier.
This is the combined weight of the machine, heated humidifier, power cables, bag and hose. The weight of the shipping box is not included in the number.
This is the actual weight of the CPAP Machine without any accessories, power cord, or humidifier. Machines with a weight 3lbs or less are also identified in the Under 3 lbs property.
This measures only the weight of the machine and does not include total weight of power cables, bag, additional batteries or non-built-in humidifiers.
Looking to travel? We have found some machines are easier to travel with than others. These smaller and more lightweight machines are still robust enough for constant daily use as well as travel.
This indicates which manuals are included with the purchase of a CPAP machine. Most all machines come with a patient manual; also called 'user manual', which may or may not have pressure setting instructions. Some machines come with both the patient and quick setup guide or both patient and clinician manuals.
This identifies which machines have a decibel rating of 29 and lower. This does not account for use with the humidifier attached, which could supply additional volume that can muffle or amplify sound. This property does not account for noise that travels through the CPAP tubing, seemingly sounding louder than the measured db rating.
This is the level of sound the machine produces at a pressure of 10cm, standing 1 meter away or roughly 3 feet from machine. Measured in Decibels, the values also indicate whether the machine is considered a "quiet CPAP"; see Quiet property.
Warranty is the length of time that the manufacturer will guarantee a product to be free of defects. Warranties vary in length depending on manufacturer, but generally all machines come with a 2 Year Warranty.
This identifies the machine as continuous, auto adjusting, or bilevel operation. This does not identify whether the machine automatically adjusts pressure. Auto adjusting refers to APAP, whereas BiPAP Auto is differentiated using the Auto Pressure Adjustment property. BiPAP machines are defined further using Spontaneous or Timed properties.
A CPAP machine blows one constant pressure of air into your passageway throughout the night. Your ideal pressure was determined during your sleep study.
A BiPAP machine delivers two separate pressures of air; One when the patient inhales and a separate pressure when they exhale. The machine alternates between the two set pressures to help optimize your sleep apnea treatment.
An APAP machine automatically adjusts on a breath by breath basis to blow the minimum pressure needed to keep your airway open during sleep. This allows your machine to provide you with your ideal pressure nightly.

AirCurve 10 S BiLevel with HumidAir Overview
The AirCurve™ 10 S BiLevel Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier by ResMed is a cutting-edge unit designed to offer comfort through intuitive technology. Building on earlier versions, this bilevel machine delivers one pressure for inhalation and one pressure for exhalation. The heated humidifier is built-in to the machine to provide moisture and warm air through the hose into the mask.
The AirCurve™ 10 S BiLevel Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier operates on a set, higher pressure for inspiration and a set, lower pressure for expiration. The machine's comfort features are designed to help the user adjust to the two delivered pressures. This is a bilevel machine delivering one pressure for inhalation and one for exhalation while monitoring the length of the breaths and responding to alter the timing as needed to maintain the respiratory cycle.
Features
Easy-Breathe Comfort Feature
Built-In HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier
TiControl and Adjustable Rise Time
LCD Displays with My Options
Enhanced Vsync Technology
SmartStart / SmartStop
SD Card and Data Storage
Easy-Breathe Comfort Feature
The Easy-Breathe feature on the AirCurve™ 10 S is designed to imitate a more natural breathing pattern. At the point of transition between the two pressures, a waveform of increasing and decreasing pressure is released to encourage a natural resting breath.
Built-In HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier
The AirCurve™ 10 S has a fully integrated humidifier built-in to the machine to supply moisture and a warmer temperature throughout the hose to increase therapy comfort. Using the My Options screen on the machine, the humidification level is easy to set. Numbers 1 through 8 are listed on the screen, 1 represents the lowest level of humidification, and 8 represents the highest. The humidifier is not required for therapy, so it may be turned off if it is not desired.
The addition of the OPTIONAL ClimateLineAir™ heated tube assists in maintaining the warm temperature throughout the hose to prevent Rainout as the environmental temperature changes.
TiControl and Adjustable Rise Time
The TiControl feature on the AirCurve S machine monitors the pattern of inhalation and exhalation, comparing it against the TiMax and TiMin settings on the machine. Those with respiratory disorders such as COPD or obstructive lung disease may experience early or delayed changes from inspiration to expiration, referred to as cycling. The 10 S BiLevel TiControl feature is designed to prevent cycling by setting a minimum and maximum time limit on inspiration. When the machine detects the user breathing which falls outside the machine settings, it will intervene to alter the timing of the delivered IPAP (inhalation) or EPAP (exhalation) pressure.
TiControl Settings:
Ti Max: Maximum length of Inhalation
Ti Min: Minimum length of Inhalation
Trigger: Sensitivity level for inhalation trigger
Cycle: Sensitivity level for exhalation
Adjustable rise time is similar to TiControl. Both features support the user's ability to breathe at the appropriate time. Rise time is designed for this bilevel machine to increase the range of time from expiration to inspiration based on the set time requirement. Please Note: The rise time should not exceed the time set for inspiration due to a required higher pressure at inhalation.
IMPORTANT FUNCTION NOTE: The AirCurve 10 S machine does spontaneously regulate the breathing pattern to avoid cycling which results in inefficient breathing. This machine DOES NOT deliver a breath on a timed basis. This machine is NOT a BiLevel ST machine and DOES NOT have a back up rate setting.
LCD Display with My Options
The AirCurve™ 10 S BiLevel has a color LCD display. The menus are designed to be easy to read and use. Select the menu item on the screen by turning the easy grip dial. Select the My Options menu to view and modify the current settings:
Ramp time - Ease into therapy with a period of lower pressure, or select AutoRamp™ allowing the machine to sense and adjust when sleep begins.
Humidity Level - Set humidity between 1 (lowest) & 8 (highest), or turn it off.
Mask Fit - Runs a seal integrity check showing a green smiling face for a good fit or red frowning face for a poor fit.
Leak Alert- Set the device to begin beeping when a large leak is detected or the mask is removed.
SmartStart™ - Therapy automatically starts when it senses breathing.
SmartStop™ - Therapy automatically stops when the mask is removed.
Mask Type - Set the mask type being used: Nasal; Nasal Pillow; Full Face Mask.
Run Warmup - Preheat the humidifier water before starting therapy.
Enhanced Vsync Technology
If changes occur in mask pressure or the seal of the mask, Vsync technology is established to quickly detect the leak. Vsync leak management is developed by ResMed to track and control leakage and to relay accurate data in the instance that a leak arises. The goal is to provide the user with a factual estimation of airflow. Likewise, the differences in lung capacity can be determined by the Trigger and Cycle Sensitivity feature. The level selected reflects the respiratory effort of the user.
SmartStart™ / SmartStop™
The intuitive AirCurve™ 10 S SmartStart™ component automatically starts the device when the user breathes into the mask. The SmartStop™ component stops the device when the user removes the mask.
SD Card and Data Storage
The AirCurve™ 10 S BiLevel records the information about the sleep therapy, which can be downloaded onto an SD Card. The SD Card is installed in the machine at the time of shipment and must be in the machine before it is used. The machine's on board memory holds compliance information for 365 sessions of use as well as detailed data for 30 sessions.

IMPORTANT MACHINE FUNCTION INFORMATION:
This is a bilevel machine. It delivers one set pressure for breathing in (inhalation) and another separate pressure when breathing out (exhalation). The machine is designed to monitor for instances of the inhalation time being too short or too long and compare it against the TiControl settings of the machine. When the machine detects a breathing pattern which is outside of the setting parameters it responses in one of two ways:
If the user attempts to inhale for longer or shorter than the settings the machine will intervene by beginning the set EPAP (expiration) pressure.
If the user attempts to exhale for a longer or shorter time than the settings of the machine, it will intervene and begin, or deny, the IPAP (inspiration) pressure until it is called for by the settings.
This machine is NOT a BiPAP ST. This machine does NOT offer Spontaneous and Timed responses to breathing events. This machines ONLY offers Spontaneous responses to inhalation breaths being too short or too long. This machine will not serve the needs of a person who has been prescribed to used a BiPAP ST or BiLevel ST or Spontaneously and Timed BiPAP. This machine CANNOT be purchased using a prescription written for a BiPAP ST machine.
Travel Bag Tips
As of early 2015, the AirCurve™ 10 S BiLevel Machine with HumidAir™ Heated Humidifier comes with an upgraded travel bag. The improved design is bigger, measuring 13.24 in long, 12 in wide, and 5 in tall. The larger space allows the user to pack and protect their machine as well as the accessories for the machine, such as a mask. There is a zippered compartment located between the lid and the base of the bag. The included SlimLine™ hose is located in this compartment. An image of a hose is placed along the compartment to note it is the location where the user can safely store the hose. Additional images are placed on the flap near the edge of the bag. These pictures signify the designated location for the power cord and the mask.
Humidifier Tips
Do not fill the water chamber past the maximum fill line as this could result in water entering and damaging the device. After use, allow the water chamber to cool for ten minutes before handling as it could be too hot to the touch. The machine will display a blue snowflake in the upper right of the screen while cooling is taking place. The water chamber should be washed weekly using warm water and a mild detergent, it should be rinsed well, and allowed to dry out of direct sunlight. The standard water chamber included IS NOT dishwasher safe and should only be hand washed. To view a dishwasher safe chamber, see the Dishwasher Safe Water Chamber for AirSense™ 10 and AirCurve 10 Humidair™ Heated Humidifier.
How to Determine if the Water Chamber is Dishwasher Safe?
AirSense™ 10 and AirCurve™ 10 machines denote the water chamber model with an "S" or "C" label. Look directly above the maximum fill line located on the side of the chamber to find the word HumidAir™ and the corresponding letter embossed into the tank.
If the water chamber is dishwasher safe, the chamber will appear as HumidAir C, which represents a cleanable tank.
If the water chamber is the standard model, the chamber will appear as HumidAir S, which represents a standard tank.
Hose Tips
Either a 15mm (Slim) hose or a 22mm (Standard) hose may be used with the AirCurve™ 10 line of machines. The machine must be changed to the proper setting to ensure accurate therapy pressure. Also available is the optional ClimateLineAir™ heated hose which will instantly activate the Auto Climate Control feature when connected to the machine.
A SlimLine™ hose is included with the purchase of the AirCurve™ 10 S BiLevel machine. The hose is found in the interior, zipped compartment of the travel bag. The zippered nook is located at the point where the cover meets the bottom of the travel bag at the back of the machine compartments.
Tube Brush Compatibility with ClimateLine Hoses
The Tube Brush Second Gen is not compatible with the following tube brands:
ClimateLineAir™ Heated Tube for AirSense™ 10 and AirCurve™ 10 Machines
ClimateLineAir™ Oxy Heated Tube for AirSense™ 10 and AirCurve™ 10 Machines
While the tube brush can certainly be used to clean these hose models, it's not able to make the 90-degree turn at the machine connection end and will be unable to clean the entire hose. The tube brush is fully compatible with all other hoses.
Health Tips
ResMed's AirCurve™ 10 S has exciting technological advances to improve sleep therapy. Though, some health conditions may defer progress for some users.
Lung disease
Collapsed lung
Air leaking into the thorax, near the heart
Consistently low blood pressure, particularly due to the volume of blood in the user's circulatory system
Dehydration
A fluid leak in the brain or spine
Brain surgery or trauma to the brain
AutoRamp™ Tips
The AirCurve™ 10 S BiLevel machine feature AutoRamp™ technology. Unlike traditional ramp features that will slowly ramp up pressure over a set amount of time, AutoRamp™ will remain at the set starting pressure until it senses the user is asleep. The default starting pressure is 4 cm H2O. Once the user is asleep, the machine will start ramping 1 cm H2O per minute until it reaches the full prescribed pressure. AutoRamp™ will always reach the full prescribed pressure within 30 minutes, even if the user is not asleep, the machine will start to ramp in 1 cm H2O increments every minute to reach the full prescribed pressure at the 30 minute mark. Additionally, the AirCurve™ 10 S BiLevel machine can be set to a traditional ramp if needed, or turned off altogether.
SmartStart™ Tips
Per the manufacturer, the SmartStart™ technology may not function as intended when used with a nasal pillow mask and a pressure setting of 7 cm H2O or less. If the feature does not appear to be functioning, this comfort feature can be turned off. Please refer to the User Guide for more information.
Airplane Mode Tips
PLEASE NOTE: The AirCurve™ Line of machines include a built-in wireless modem giving the machine data transfer capabilities over a wireless cellular network. The wireless modem will automatically connect if the machine's "Airplane Mode" is turned to "Off". For privacy concerns, CPAP.com ships the machine with Airplane Mode "On" so that sleep data information will not be transmitted unintentionally over the wireless network. If Airplane Mode is turned "Off", sleep data could be transmitted to ResMed's servers.
PLEASE NOTE: The AirView data transfer system is for use only in North America. It cannot be used to transmit data wirelessly outside of North America. The SD card that accompanies the machine can be used to store and share data.
