Learn More About This Product

The In-line Outlet Bacteria Filter for CPAP/BiPAP (5 Pack) is a must-have among CPAP supplies for any customer suffering from allergies. This filter cleans the air as it leaves a CPAP or BiPAP machine. It provides very clean air by being used in conjunction with the machine's built-in inlet filters.

This is a package of 5 filters.

Heated Hose/Tubing Compatibility

CPAP/BiPAP machines that are using a heated hose/tubing which is specific to that machine and require a specialized connection are not compatible with the In-line Bacteria filter. The In-line Bacteria Filter cannot be placed between the machine and the hose/tubing connection. In this case, the In-line Bacteria filter could be used between the Hose/Tubing and the mask if desired and will add bulk at that connection.

Examples of machine specific heated hose/tubing are:

The In-line Bacteria Filter is compatible with the Hybernite Rainout Control System, fitting between the hose and the machine.

Maintenance and Care

The length of use of the bacterial filter varies between users and environments. The filter should be replaced when there is debris seen on the white filter material. It is easy to see the condition of the filter through the clear acrylic globe. Replace the filter when it becomes discolored. If the bacteria filter becomes very dirty or wet, machine performance may be affected.

Heated humidifiers can cause water to collect in the filter chamber, thus clogging the filter and adversely affecting therapy. If wet, remove the filter from the machine and set out to dry. Dry time may vary.

Auto Adjusting CPAP Machines

This filter may have an impact on the ability of any Auto Adjusting CPAP to accurately respond to airflow restrictions during use. If the average treatment pressure is below a pressure of 7cm H2O this should not be used.

CPAP and BiPAP machines with Auto On/Off Feature

The Auto On/Off Feature has a difficult time sensing air flow, which helps determine whether the machine is in use or simply blowing air. Our tests show the Auto On/Off feature does not work with the following machines:

  • ResMed S8 Vantage
  • ResMed S8 AutoSet II
  • ResMed s8 VPAP
  • ResMed s8 VPAP Auto 25
  • ResMed VPAP Malibu

Installation Tips

If a Whisper Cap is used on an M Series machine without a heated humidifier, the Whisper Cap will not fit if used together with a outlet bacteria filter. If you wish to use both a Whisper Cap and an outlet bacteria filter without a heated humidifier, then you should add a Hose Quick Connect or a M Series Tubing Swivel between the CPAP machine and the outlet bacteria filter.

A bacteria filter will not install directly to the air outlet port on the IntelliPAP Heated Humidifier as there is not enough space for the filter. IntelliPAP humidifier owners can order the FlexiTube Angle Adapter for CPAP and BiPAP Machines to provide a spacer between the humidifier and the bacteria filter. The CPAP hose can then fit onto the other end of the bacteria filter.

The In-line Bacteria Filter will fit directly onto the air outlet port for the following machines but will not fit snuggly onto the humidifier for these machines . The FlexiTube Angle Adapter for CPAP and BiPAP Machines can be used to connect the In-line Bacteria Filter onto the humidifier for the following machines:

  • Zzz-PAP CPAP Machine
  • Puresom CPAP Machine
  • EVO 804 APAP

The In-line Bacteria Filter will fit directly onto the air outlet port for the following machines WITH humidifier but will not fit snuggly onto the machine WITHOUT humidifier . The FlexiTube Angle Adapter for CPAP and BiPAP Machines can be used to connect the In-line Bacteria Filter onto the following machines without humidifier:

  • RESmart Machines

Please Note: Per the manufacturer, the following warning is extended for children and those who are pregnant or breast feeding. The In-Line Outlet Bacterial Filter may contain phthalates which may cause adverse health effects.

Do all CPAPs use filters?
Yes, all CPAPs use at least one filter that is usually a type of foam material and washable. Some CPAPs offer finer filtration with the addition of a disposable paper filter.

Cleaning and changing filters is the only maintenance required for a CPAP machine.

The filters are located at the back of the machine at the air intake.
In what order do I insert the filters?
If using both a foam and paper filter, the white paper filter is inserted into the filter area first. Some paper filters use the same material on both sides and either side can face into the machine. Other paper filters may have a plastic mesh side and a soft, fuzzy side. Insert the mesh side facing into the machine and the fuzzy side facing out of the machine as shown in the image below.

If the paper filter has a tab, fold it facing out of the machine for easy removal. The foam filter is inserted into the filter area after the paper filter is installed. The foam filter will catch the larger dirt particles first.

If you are using a two colored filter, the colored side faces out as shown in the image below.

How often should I clean my filters?
Washable foam filters should be cleaned as soon as they become discolored. Manufacturers recommend foam filters be rinsed weekly under clear running water and allowed to air dry before being reinstalled in the machine. If the machine is used in a very dusty environment, the foam filter may require more frequent cleaning.

Disposable filters and bacteria filters are not intended to be cleaned but rather changed out, disposing of the used filter. Manufacturers recommend changing the disposable filter once a month, more frequently if used in a very dusty environment.
How often should I replace my filters?
Reusable foam filters should be replaced when they deteriorate and begin to fall apart, much as a sponge does. The foam filter should be washed with a mild detergent monthly and should be replaced every 3 months or more if the foam is torn.

Disposable fine filters and bacteria filters should be discarded as soon as they become discolored or at least every 30 days.

If you live in a house with pets or smoke, you may need to replace the filters more often.
What is an In-line Outlet Bacteria Filter for CPAP/BiPAP?
Bacteria filters are fine enough to remove some bacteria and are clinically indicated when a CPAP machine is used by more than one person. However, many CPAP users find them helpful in reducing the occurrence of sinus infections and other nasal issues. Bacteria filters can be used with an CPAP/APAP/ or BiPAP machine.

Bacteria filters are housed in a plastic frame and are placed at the CPAP air outlet, rather than the air inlet. They may be used with humidifiers, but should be removed and allowed to air dry during the day.

This filter is placed at the air outtake for your machine if you are not using a humidifiers. If you are using a humidifier, it is placed at the air outake for your humidifier. The bacteria filter is placed in the air outtake and the CPAP hose is placed on the other end.

The entire housing is disposable and should be discarded as soon as matter becomes visible. A clogged Bacteria filter may affect the amount of air delivered by the CPAP.

An example of a bacteria filter is shown below. Follow by an image showing how it installed.

Too Noisy

Verified purchase | Jul. 24, 2023 | Dennis N.
Be great if it worked. I have tried it on my BIPAP and my travel BIPAP. When attached it causes a whistling noise that kept me awake. Too bad.
