FAQs about the AirSense 11 with AirFit F20

How loud is the AirSense 11?

The ResMed AirSense 11 delivers peaceful, whisper-quiet therapy at just 27 decibels. Sound levels can be affected by your mask fit and hose connection, but with proper setup, most users find their bed partners don't even notice it running. For the quietest experience, we recommend ensuring your mask fits properly and checking that your humidifier and hose is securely connected.

Does the AirSense 11 automatically adjust pressure?

Yes, the AirSense 11 AutoSet CPAP senses your breathing patterns and adjusts therapy pressure throughout the night. It offers three therapy modes to match your needs:

  1. AutoSet: Automatically responds to sleep events, providing exactly the pressure you need.
  2. AutoSet for Her: Designed specifically for women, featuring more gradual pressure changes.
  3. CPAP: Maintains one consistent pressure level throughout the night.

Your comfort comes first, with features like AutoRamp™ that starts at a lower pressure until you fall asleep, and EPR™ that makes breathing out more natural by lowering pressure when you exhale.

If you're sensitive to pressure changes, AutoSet Response lets you choose gentler adjustments. Monitor how your device adapts to your needs using the myAir™ app.

Should I upgrade to a heated hose for the AirSense 11?

Upgrading to a heated hose can help provide a more consistent therapy experience regardless of seasonal changes or location. If you find yourself traveling to a different climate, a heated hose can help you maintain the same therapy you had at home.

If you experience the collection of condensation in your CPAP hose that drips down onto your face and wakes you up, also known as CPAP rainout, a heated hose can help prevent condensation buildup, allowing you to sleep through the night.

With a ClimateLineAir 11 Heated Tube, you’ll also be able to utilize the AirSense 11’s auto climate control settings, which automatically detect the ambient room temperature and supply the optimal humidification for your sleep setting.

You may want one if you:

- Experience dry mouth or throat
- Notice water droplets in your tube
- Use humidification regularly
- Live in a cold or dry climate

You might not need one if you:

- Live in a humid climate
- Don't use the humidifier
- Keep your bedroom warm
- Are comfortable with your current setup

Many of our customers find the heated hose adds noticeable comfort to their therapy, particularly in winter. If cost is a concern, a CPAP hose cover provides similar benefits at a lower price point.

How to change your AirSense 11 Filter?

To change the filter on your AirSense 11 CPAP machine, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off your machine and disconnect it from its power source.
  2. Locate the filter compartment on the back of the machine.
  3. When looking at the rear of your AirSense 11, the filter compartment will be on the lower right-hand side opposite the humidifier chamber.
  4. Open the compartment and remove the old filter.
  5. Insert the new filter and close the compartment.
  6. Reconnect your machine to its power source.
Is the AirSense 11 Filter the same as Airsense 10?

The AirSense 11 air filter has a different design and is not interchangeable with the AirSense 10 filter.

Is the AirSense 11 compatible with all CPAP masks?

Yes, the ResMed AirSense 11 works with any CPAP mask using the standard 22mm connection, regardless of brand. For optimal performance and full feature access, we recommend using our curated selection of ResMed AirSense 11 Masks.

Important notes:

  • All standard CPAP masks will connect and function
  • ResMed masks maximize device features and performance
  • Some features (like SmartStop) work best with specific masks
  • Magnetic masks require precautions for users with medical implants

For complete mask compatibility details, see ResMed's official list.

What’s the difference between the AirFit F20 and the AirTouch F20?

The biggest difference between these two mask styles is the cushion: the AirFit F20 has a soft silicone cushion and the AirTouch F20 has a contouring memory foam cushion. You can, however, use the AirTouch F20 cushion on the AirFit F20 if you prefer memory foam over silicone.

How do I size the ResMed AirFit F20 mask?

To size your AirFit F20 mask, use a tape measure to measure from the bridge of your nose to the indent of your chin. For small, measure 2.91 to 3.39 inches; for medium, 3.39 to 3.9 inches; and for large, 3.9 to 4.7 inches. ResMed provides a printable sizing guide on their website for accurate measurements.

Is the AirFit F20 mask noisy?

The AirFit F20 is designed to be quiet, featuring QuietAir vents that make it 89% quieter than previous versions. It operates at just 21 decibels, which is softer than a whisper, ensuring a peaceful night's sleep for both you and your partner.

How often should I replace the cushion on my AirFit F20?

The cushion on your AirFit F20 should be replaced every three to six months. However, if you notice visible wear and tear or if the mask starts leaking despite adjustments, you should replace the cushion immediately to maintain effective therapy.

Can I use the AirFit F20 if I sleep on my side?

Yes, the AirFit F20 is designed to accommodate various sleeping positions, including side sleeping. Its flexible cushion and 360-degree rotating elbow allow for movement while maintaining a seal, making it suitable for active sleepers and those who prefer sleeping on their side.

How often should your AirFit F20 Headgear be replaced?

Your AirFit F20 Headgear should be replaced every six to nine months to ensure you do not have to overtighten your mask in order to get a leak-free seal. Find similar replacement parts on the AirFit F20 Mask Parts page.

What is the ResMed AirFit F20 Headgear made out of?

The headgear is made of nylon (elastane), polyurethane, and polyamide.

How long does the AirFit F20 Cushion last?

The AirFit F20 InfinitySeal Cushion should last around three to six months. Be on the lookout for signs of wear and tear (visible rips or tears) or discomfort, which are indicators that your cushion needs to be replaced. If you are overtightening to retain a secure seal, then that is also a sign that your cushion needs to be replaced.

What does it mean that the AirFit F20 has a universal fit?

ResMed conducted a study where the AirFit F20 was designed to fit 97% of CPAP wearers, taking the worry out of fitting your mask.

Source: ResMed AirFit F20 internal USA fitting study of 34 existing CPAP patients conducted April 2016.

How do I clean the AirFit F20 Cushion?

To clean the cushion, use warm water and mild soap before or after each use. Ensure that your rinse the mask thoroughly and allow it to air dry. In comparison, the AirTouch F20 Memory Foam Cushion (which is also compatible with the AirFit F20) cannot be washed (only wiped off after each use).

What is the difference between the AirFit F20 Cushion and the AirTouch F20 Cushion?

The AirTouch F20 Cushion can also be used for the AirFit F20 mask. However, the AirTouch F20 Cushion is made out of memory foam and needs to be changed every 30 days. Alternatively, the AirFit F20 Cushion is made out of silicone, meaning it does not need to be replaced as frequently.
