What position do I sleep in?

Depending on your sleeping position (back, side, stomach), you'll want to choose a sleep apnea mask that will minimize leaks and discomfort. Typically, Nasal Pillow and Nasal Masks are better for side sleepers since they allow for more flexibility and have fewer facial touchpoints. However, that's not to say, Full Face CPAP Masks can't work for side sleepers.

Yes, you need a prescription to buy a CPAP mask. They are considered Class II Medical Devices, and per federal and state regulations, a prescription must be on file before you can buy one. There is one exception to this rule. With some mask manufacturers, you can buy a Mask Assembly Kit (basically a mask without headgear) and the Assembly Kit would not require a prescription. To maintain the integrity of your mask seal, your CPAP cushion should be replaced once every 3 to 6 months. As for your CPAP headgear, this should be replaced every 6 to 9 months. Your complete mask should be replaced once every 6 to 12 months.
