ResMed AirFit N20 Nasal CPAP Mask Review 2024

Table of Contents

The ResMed AirFit N20 is one of the most popular masks on the market. This over-the-nose mask consistently tops our list of best nasal CPAP masks thanks to its strong seal and user-friendly design.

Nasal CPAP masks, like the N20, are often suggested to people who are struggling or new to CPAP because they cover a smaller portion of the face while offering a secure seal that can withstand higher pressure settings.

Customer Highlights

BEST EVER!—5 Stars: “This mask that fits over your entire nose is the best mask I’ve used. I’ve tried several different styles trying to get my best sleep and this one surpasses them all by far. It stays in place and I don’t have to worry about it having moved during the night and waking me up. Less cumbersome headgear with the same nasal mask would be the ultimate!” Verified Purchase 06/02/2023

The ResMed AirFit N20 Review

The AirFit N20 offers all the most important features you could want in a CPAP mask. The adjustable headgear is comfortable and easy to use. The uniquely designed InfinitySeal prevents mask leaks, even when used with high CPAP pressure settings.

Most importantly, the mask offers a wide variety of sizing options. The AirFit N20 is designed to fit faces of all shapes and sizes.

Let’s take a closer look at the AirFit F20 design:

Compact Over-the-Nose Design Boosts Comfort

The AirFit N20 features a traditional-style mask that fits over the nose. This mask style will naturally be bulkier than newer under-the-nose designs, like the AirFit N30.

To address this, ResMed made this mask quite a bit more compact than most traditional-style masks. This design makes the N20 more comfortable and leaves your field of view wide open.

The most common complaint we hear about over-the-nose CPAP masks is that they can cause pressure points and red marks across the bridge of the nose. The AirFit N20 addresses this issue with additional soft cushioning at the bridge of the nose.

Universal Design Fits Over 99% of Wearers

One of the best characteristics of this mask is that it fits just about everyone. ResMed testing showed that 99.4% of people who tried the AirFit N20 found it fit well.

The N20 fits a wide range of people due to its adjustable headgear and adaptable cushion, which is intended to fit even large noses.

After hearing from hundreds of our own happy customers, we certainly agree!

Innovative InfinitySeal Reduces Mask Leaks

The AirFit N20 mask cushion features ResMed’s InfinitySeal technology. The core of the cushion includes several specially designed loops, which vary in thickness.

The purpose of the InfinitySeal is to stabilize the cushion so that it doesn’t slip or leak air. This feature improves the mask’s fit and stability, allowing the cushion to sit comfortably along the contours of the nose and face.

Move Freely With a Full Swivel Hose Connection and Short Tube

This mask includes a traditional-style hose connection located on the front of the mask, which includes several features that help to reduce hose pulling and dragging.

This includes a quick-release elbow that swivels 360° both at the mask connection point as well as where the elbow meets the short tubing.

Obviously, this design does not give you as much freedom of movement as a mask with a top-of-the-head hose connection– like the AirFit N30i or DreamWear Nasal CPAP Mask.

That said, the AirFit N20 makes it easier to find a comfortable sleeping position, particularly if you are a side sleeper.

Flexible Headgear Features Adjustable Velcro Straps

The N20 includes sturdy but flexible plastic headgear secured with a soft nylon head strap. This headgear moves with you so your mask does not slip even if you toss and turn.

The head straps attach to the frame via four easy-to-adjust velcro straps, which ensure you get a perfect mask fit every time. Plus, the headgear is intended to be compatible with almost any hairstyle, up or down.

Padded Headgear Reduces Pressure Points

The N20’s low-profile headgear features additional soft cloth padding along the inner side of the frame and head strap.

This feature guarantees comfort even along sensitive pressure points on your face, making it much easier to lay comfortably on your side without having your headgear cut into your cheek or forehead.

QuietAir Vent Technology Makes Your Mask Whisper Quiet

Like other AirFit masks, ResMed included QuietAir Vent Technology to reduce the noise produced by the N20 to just 24 decibels.

This technology uses multi-directional exhalation vents placed across the surface of the mask elbow. The purpose of this design is to spread out the release of excess air so that the noise produced is muffled.

Easily Detach from Your CPAP Hose With the Quick-Release Elbow

The AirFit N20 includes ResMed’s easy-to-use Quick-Release Elbow, which makes it super easy to disassemble your mask from the CPAP hose– whether it’s for quick bathroom trips or weekly cleaning.

Unlike the AirFit N30i, the N20 elbow is easier to reach because it is located at the front of the mask. After a bit of practice, many customers get used to detaching and reattaching their masks with just one hand, even in the dark.

Self-Guided Magnetic Clasps Make It Easy to Put Your Mask On

Another well-known AirFit feature is the set-it-and-forget-it magnetic clasps, which let you put your mask on and take it off without ever loosening your velcro adjustments.

This feature is great if you prefer to take your mask off when running to the bathroom or getting a midnight snack.

One potential downside is that magnetic headgear is not advised for people with medical implants, such as a pacemaker. If you have a medical implant, talk to your doctor about the safety of magnetic CPAP masks.

Interchangeable Memory Foam Cushion for Sensitive Skin

The AirFit N20 comes with a silicone cushion which is interchangeable with the memory foam cushion that comes with the AirTouch N20.

The headgear and mask frame are identical between the two masks and offer all of the same great features, with the exception that the memory foam mask is even more gentle on the skin.

Weekly Cleaning and Maintenance With Six Pieces

Cleaning and maintaining the AirFit N20 is pretty easy, though there are more pieces compared to masks with more streamlined designs, such as the AirFit N30.

This mask features six pieces– the padded cloth headgear, silicone mask cushion, flexible mask frame, flexible short tube with quick-release elbow, and two self-guiding magnetic clips.

Your mask cushion should be wiped down each morning. ResMed states that all mask pieces should be washed on a weekly basis using mild soap and warm water. Be sure to let each piece air dry before reassembling.

The AirFit N20 Offers a Range of Sizing Options

The AirFit N20 is sold in a range of different sizes for the headgear and cushions, including an AirFit N20 For Her option.

N20 headgear comes in small, standard, and large. The mask cushion is offered in small, medium, and large.

You can find the right cushion size for your face shape by using the ResMed N20 sizing guide.

AirFit N20 Is Definitely Worth the Price

The N20 mask is one of the less expensive AirFit products. The vast majority of customers agree that it is worth every penny.

If you are a nose breather who needs a strong seal but want something that isn’t so bulky, the AirFit N20 is a great purchase!
