FAA Battery Regulations
Here are the regulations from the FAA explaining its policies on what types of batteries are acceptable for bringing on a flight. Per the manufacturer, this battery meets the requirements for in-flight use:
FAA Regulations for Batteries
AirSense™ 10 Charging Instructions:
- Using the power supply of a compatible device, plug the AC power supply into the Pilot-24 Lite.
- Plug the power supply into a wall outlet.
- The charge level is indicated by the lights on the front of the battery. When all four lights are illuminated, the battery is fully charged.
- When fully charged, disconnect from the wall outlet.
Charging Using the AirMini™ Power Supply
- Plug the included Short Charging Adapter Cable into the charge port of the Pilot-24 Lite.
- Connect the Short Charging Adapter Cable to the power supply of the AirMini.
- Plug into the wall outlet, and charging should begin.
- The charge level is indicated by the lights on the front of the battery. When all four lights are illuminated, the battery is fully charged.
- When fully charged, disconnect from the wall outlet.
Using as a Backup for the AirMini™
The ResMed AirMini™ AC adapter can only be used to charge the Pilot-24 Lite and can't be used in the Backup Power Supply configuration for the AirMini™. To use the ResMed AirMini™ PAP Device in the backup configuration with Pilot-24 Lite please use Medistrom AC Power Adapter for Pilot-24 Lite (sold separately). A power supply for the original ResMed AirSense 10 AC power adapter will also work, as will the original ResMed S9 power adapter with the short charging adapter cable.
Does using the battery in backup mode count against the 500 charging cycles lifetime?
No, it does not. The 500 cycles rule is only applicable when using it as a travel battery and the unit is fully depleted and recharged.
First Time Charging: Charge all the way to 100%. Partially charging the battery from the first charge, can impact long-term run-times.
International Charging: The device can be charged internationally as the charger accepts voltages from 100V to 240V. Consider using International Plug Adapters to connect the power supply to an international wall outlet.
Tips for Improving Run Times:
The battery is intended to last for up to 10 hours or longer. Battery runtimes are impacted by many factors including altitude, use of humidification, pressure settings, and many other factors.
Simply put, lower pressure settings and not using humidification will help the battery last longer, and at lower altitudes, the machine doesn't have to work as hard to apply therapeutic pressure. Run-times also vary widely from device to device, as some machines consume less DC power than others.
Please be aware that CPAP.com makes no guarantee for battery power run-times.
WARNINGS:
- Lithium-Ion battery cells are corrosive and can cause injury if exposed. The lithium-ion battery cells are safely enclosed inside of the aluminum casing, so it's important not to abuse the battery in ways that could result in them being exposed. This includes dropping, striking, or crushing the battery.
- Do not get the battery wet. Any kind of moisture can result in damage or loss.
- Do not use any damaged or frayed components or cables.
- Do not expose the battery to extreme heat or fire, as this could cause the battery to explode.
- Do not use the battery with any CPAP device that is not compatible as it could cause damage or loss to the device and the battery.
- Store in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight. Overheating can result in the battery shutting down or cause damage to the battery.
- When using the Pilot-12 Lite or the Pilot-24 Lite as a portable PAP battery, pleased disconnect the heated humidifier and heated hose from your PAP device as this will significantly reduce the battery run time.
WARRANTY INFORMATION: Please note that all Medistrom Backup Power Supplies (Pilot, Pilot Plus, Co-Pilot, and Pilot Lite units) must be CHARGED TO FULL BEFORE STORAGE AND EVERY 6 MONTHS OR LESS WHILE IN STORAGE. Failure to charge the Medistrom Backup Power Supplies at least every 6 months is considered NEGLECT. Any Medistrom Backup Power Supply that is found to be malfunctioning due to neglect will have its WARRANTY VOIDED
EXTREME TEMPERATURE WARNING: Do NOT expose the battery to temperatures above 104 degrees Fahrenheit or temperatures below 14 degrees Fahrenheit. Exposing the battery to these temperatures can cause damage to the lithium-ion cells and can be a fire hazard.
"COIL WHINE" NOTICE: Sometimes the Pilot-24 Lite can make the sound of a slight buzzing sound when charging the battery on lower voltage. If hearing this sound, nothing is wrong with the battery and is an indication it is being charged at a lower voltage.
