How to Choose a ResMed CPAP Machine

When choosing a CPAP machine, there are quite a few points to consider before making your final decision, such as:

• Doctor’s Recommendations: The first and foremost most important aspect to consider is the recommendations of your healthcare provider. They will prescribe you a fixed-pressure CPAP machine, auto-adjusting APAP machine, or split-pressure BiPAP machine, depending on your diagnosis and medical history, so you don’t need to worry about what type of machine you’ll be getting. Take note of any features your provider recommends too, such as heated humidification or advanced data tracking, as these will be personalized recommendations to help you experience successful therapy. 
• Comfort Features: There are many comfort features found on ResMed CPAP machines and many are shared across models. One example is the SmartStart/Stop feature, which automatically begins therapy when you put your mask on and start breathing and stops when you take it off. All ResMed CPAP machines offer heated humidification except for the AirMini Travel CPAP, which instead offers waterless humidification. 
• Data Tracking Capabilities: Whether you’re interested in your sleep therapy data, need compliance reports for insurance, or your healthcare provider simply wants to keep a closer watch over your therapy, a model with advanced data tracking is ideal. • Sound Level: If there’s one thing ResMed seems to have mastered, it’s the low noise output of their machines. Even the AirMini travel machine operates at an impressively quiet 30 decibels while their full-sized machines benefit from even more sound-abating material for a quieter night’s sleep at around 27 decibels. Both machines are quieter than a whisper.
• Portability: Lastly, also consider if you’ll be traveling a lot with your ResMed CPAP machine. The travel-sized AirMini will last much longer on a portable CPAP battery and is significantly easier to pack. With that said, even the AirSense 10 and 11 models are relatively compact and easy to travel with if you prefer the capability of a full-sized machine.

Types of ResMed CPAP Machines for Sale

ResMed CPAP machines are available in four different types: single pressure, auto-adjusting pressure, bilevel air pressure, and travel-friendly. Depending on your current situation and therapy needs, your healthcare provider may prescribe you one of the four types of ResMed CPAP machines as described below:

• Single Pressure: A fixed-pressure CPAP machine administers air at a consistent flow of pressure. The pressure level is typically set by your physician or DME and will need to be adjusted by a medical professional as well.
• Auto-Adjusting Pressure: Also called an APAP, these machines automatically adjust the air pressure level while you're asleep. The pressure level adjusts based on your sleep position and the sleep cycle your body is currently in, as well as if you’re dealing with any allergies or congestion.
• Dual Air Pressures: Also referred to as a bilevel machine, ResMed BiPAP machines are typically prescribed only to those who have Central or Complex Sleep Apnea, COPD, or several other respiratory conditions. 
• Travel-Friendly: Compared to a traditional CPAP machine, these compact, travel-friendly devices weigh less than a pound, fit in the palm of your hand, and administer CPAP therapy just like their full-sized counterparts.

• Ramp/AutoRamp: Ramp allows you to start at a lower pressure and gradually increase to the prescribed pressure over an adjustable period of time—up to 45 minutes. AutoRamp keeps you at a lower pressure until it detects that you have fallen asleep, at which point it will raise to your prescribed pressure.
• Expiratory Pressure Relief (EPR): EPR reduces the incoming air pressure during exhalation, allowing you to find a more natural rhythm to your breathing. The intensity of this setting is adjustable and can even be turned off entirely.
• SmartStart: Starts therapy pressure automatically when you put your mask on and take a breath. 
• SmartStop: Automatically stops therapy when you remove your mask or disconnect from your hose. 
• Mask Fit: Runs pressure through your system to check for air leaks.
• Climate Control: Can be manually adjusted across multiple different humidification levels or automatically set when combined with the ClimateLineAir Heated Tubing, which is available for both the AirSense 10 and AirSense 11. 
• ResMed MyAir: A companion app that pairs with ResMed CPAP machines (excludes AirSense 10 Card-to-Cloud) and gives daily feedback on compliance, tracks multiple metrics from your therapy sessions, and offers personalized coaching tips.
• Over-the-Air Software Updates: Exclusive to AirSense 11, Over-the-Air Software Updates allow ResMed to automatically make changes, fix bugs, or add features without any user involvement.
